Books in Silver that introduce Anglicanism if seminary program has started?

Hi!
Besides that I know about 2-3 books that are recommended on the local webpage of the denomination, are there many books that consist good introductions to Anglicanism in the new Silver base-package (GK)? I've started out in seminary and I've been in touch with priests - especially one of the two said I should get aquainted with the denomination and told me to start at the website of the diocese.
Also would have to be somewhat active in the parish for many years. But as it will take time before I'm even a member I don't think I will have any actual tasks for years to come.

What would the value of those books be in US$? (Or some other currency.) This would affect my decision whether to upgrade now or not, that's why I would need to know how much You would value them and if there are other important books for other aims which I've discussed in a separate thread, together with the new databases it might ad up to enough reason to upgrade.

What I see as the highlights in Anglican Silver:

For Everyone NT/OT Commentaries.
Blacks New Testament Commentaries.
Some of the church father content, some of the dictionaries...
The Titles by Packer, C.S. Lewis, and I am interested in some of the greek tools.

For me it costs 89$, and of the things I've mentioned I would gain Eusebius, and a 40$ greek grammar (and some other things I'm less interested in). I likely will make the purchase eventually. But not right away.

One of the commentaries that is included in silver is Feasting on the Word, which is likely to be extremely useful for preaching in the Anglican or Episcopal traditions as it follows the Revised Common Lectionary and gives really good summaries of the text from theological, pastoral and exegetical perspectives. It's much better than I expected. The value of all the books can be found by looking up each book (or set) individually on Logos or Amazon. There's no question that the packages offer great value; the larger question is whether you would actually use all of the books they sell you. I must admit that I'm mostly interested in the commentaries and the difficulty is that silver, gold, platinum packages come with a whole bunch of stuff that I don't want as well as the commentaries that I do. Everyone is different, though, and I'm sure some people do value the weirdly conservative free books that seem to come at every level

You are asking the right questions. However it's a bit difficult to estimate how I would value these (except Old Testament For Everyone by Goldingay which I used a little when I tried out 5Anglican Bronze).
There must be something good in the commentaries as it took such a long time for Logos to come out with Anglican base-packages (so they must have had time to think about which ones to include), however it's difficult to fit commentary-reading in my schedule the next 3 or so years. So the difficulty about estimating the value is because I wouldn't have any immediate use for almost any of those commentaries You mentioned. Even so I'd be interested in how many US$ or £ value You think these individual resources would have?

I could assign values, but that doesn't change the asking price. The asking price for Anglican Silver, for someone with no titles in their library is 1000$ for 585 resources - this is different than volumes. If you count individual volumes its probably easily over a thousand (I lost count around 400 and was not that far down the page). Assuming then an average value of a dollar a volume, its hard not to see the value inherent in these packages. At a dollar a book, its hard not to at least try out the package and see whether its a fit for you or not. Whatever I value a title at, even of a book I disagree with, is going to be greater than a single dollar us.

I'm not comparing either of the following groups to Anglicans, however If I were writing a paper on Jehovas Witness, or Mormonism, shouldn't I have read and quoted their literature? If I am engaged in a bible study with one, wouldn't it help for me to know their positions? that alone is worth well more than a dollar.

I think Baptists have more to agree with certain streams of Anglicanism than we disagree on. Though our disagreements are not insignificant. Anglicans are helping pay my way through a Baptist Seminary, and for that I am extremely grateful. However all that is meant from what I said is that even if you don't like the perspective of a book in your library, there is still in my mind an inherent value. I disagree with N.T. Wright and his NPP, but that doesn't mean his writings are valueless to me, and when the chance arises to pick up his books at a dollar each or less- I pounce upon them finances permitting.

In the end, the real question is how much value do these titles have to you unix? Is it worth a dollar a book to find out?

It would be important to know how much everyone apreciates some titles measued in currency, because either way I would never buy most of what's in Silver, whether with 15-25% discounts or without.

I know I wouldn't find time evaluating it:

Anglican Silver has five titles that pertain to Anglican history, theology, and tradition. I can't vouch for their value, but they seem to be designed to introduce the Anglican faith.

Don't get it, you will just return it.

Just as there are differences reflected in the currency exchange there are differences in how each user values books. We can not accurately assign a value ttat would be meaningful to you.

True but I can't estimate values myself as I don't know anything about the quality of these resources or other relevant resources I asked for in my OP:

EDIT: It benefits Logos when users are not satisfied with the books on certain topics in the base-packages and after the 30-day return possibility is over add individual titles or collections that are of much better quality dealing with the said topic. By introductions I don't mean basic, I mean accurate.

That's a tough question to answer without knowing where you are in the world, or what sort of Anglicanism you're referring to in your question. There are a number of different groups claiming the moniker "Anglican" - even in England these days. The question you raise would have different answers if you're asking in terms of the CoE or the Scottish Episcopal Church, or the American Episcopal Church, or a Church of the Global South, or the Reformed Episcopal Church, or Anglican Church in America, or ACNA or CANA, or...

Broadly speaking, anything by Archbishop Temple is a wonderful start no matter where you are, but he doesn't seem to have any books in the Silver package. More than that, it's a hard question to answer without more particulars.

In your other thread on Anglican Silver I mentioned the works new to Silver that i valued mostly.. initially missing Eerdmans Bible Commentary. I was very happy to upgrade my Anglican Gold 5 to 6 and the new works i received seemed a good value for my upgrade price. With the more conservative leaning of many of the resources in Logos Anglican it would seem to be a good fit. But I a more liberal Anglican am also comfortable with Logos Anglican Libraries... I applaud you doing the best research to choose the right package for you but in the end you might just have to bite the bullet to see if it is right for you.

Thanks Dan, Rayner, Nicholas, Paul and abondservant! Regarding Bible scholarship I'm not that conservative, I wouldn't go to conservative universities.

I got a small loan, I'll have a look now to see how much money I have and think later today whether the Logos purchases and a purchase of a computer would be possible, and then call to see if Sales can tell me whether the $50 promo is ending and when.

I'll asign a value to each book, calculate the sum, and withdraw a few $ (not many $ alltogether) for some pastoral databases and books I would rather not have. Then I'll see.

ACNA is a offshoot that is part of the official Anglican communion but lives within the dioceses of other provinces of the Anglican communion. I feel it was unneeded but I am happy that they remain in communion with the wider church.

You may just want to have a slightly different approach. They don't need to know about Logos. Just print up a list of books, and ask them what they think of each.
