Greetings, Brothers and Sisters,
Many (most?) tablets are still 32 bit and Logos 6 is 64 bit.
Do some of you have suggestions for this non-techy?
Many thanks, and shalom.
The mobile platforms and desktop platforms run on different code at this time, so while the desktop product is version 6, the mobile products are numbered differently, and on a different release cycle. So if you use a logos mobile app, there is no need to worry about 32 v 64 at this time
Hopefully others will have actual recommendations... Make sure that whatever you get is a "pro" level device running the full version of windows. You can't get an RT level device and run Logos. (i.e. get a "Surface Pro," not a "Surface RT")
EDIT: I see that abondservant took your question differently than I did. For clarification: "Logos 6" only runs on "desktop level" devices (including laptops and some tablets) running windows or OS X (Mac). Most tablets are Android or iOS (iPad) and can't run "Logos 6."
I will say I am quite happy with my iPad 3. It is starting to show its age, but heck, its still doing what I need just fine. Likely to keep it for a while yet.
Thank you, Bond Servant and Alabama,
As a non-techy I posted too briefly.
My original post should have stated I'm looking for a tablet running a full version of Windows 8.1, not a mobile device requiring an app. BTW, I've had an iPad Mini for 17 months, but miss the full functionality of Logos 6 (and L5 before that).
The Surface Pro 3 has both a larger display and a higher price than I want.
I don't know what might have a smaller screen but similar specs internally to a surface pro 3.
Yes, Many tablets sporting 8.1 are indeed 32 bit, but the desktop software functions just fine on them. ... Logos 6 is NOT exclusively 64 bit. The download detects if you have a 64 or 32 bit system, and loads the appropriate software. The advantage of 64 bit (as I understand it) is the ability to utilize more ram...thereby achieving slightly faster performance. I run the desktop software on a Dell Venue 8 Pro.(as stated in another thread.) It is a very cost effective alternative to the costlier tablet/hybrids.
Paul - I assume the 64 bit tablets would be on the higher end price wise?
Yes...That is correct.
surface Pro 1 is available in some places for a reduced price and runs Logos splendidly
Thank you, David. And thank you Paul for this addition to your earlier post on a previous thread.
I'm using Logos 6 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3...the keyboard and trackpad take a while to get use to (especially if you come from using a Mac), but the portability and performance has been great!!!
I run the full L6 on my ASUS Vivo Smart tablet (Windows 8.1, 32bit). It works fine for me. If I decide to use it as a mini-laptop I just use both the wireless keyboard and mouse (bought separately).
And from the experience of others too, a 32bit tablet seems to run Logos well even if not to the level of a laptop.
I understand there are newer versions within this range and you may explore them especially if screen size and price are important for you in deciding.
Have you noticed any overheating problems with the Surface 1? I read something that indicated this was a concern.
Thank you all for your replies.
A double thank-you to Alexxy for following up on his post on a previous thread. Alexxy, I've pretty well decided on the Asus Vivo Tab Smart with Windows 8.1

God Bless.
Good to hear you have reached a decision as to which hardware to buy.
Deciding which device to buy is often times the most crucial step. Loading the software is usually straight forward.
Enjoy it and share your experience when convenient.
Thank you for thanking me.

have not noticed. I have a couple basic layouts I use when holding in tablet mode. These layouts do not tax the system and generate heat. My "heavy lifting" layouts I usually use on a desk with external mouse and external monitor Thus my hands are not in contact so that heat becomes noticeable. In 18 months I have only noticed heat once when I folded up the device to leave after an intense study session.

Thanks for the info
Surface Pro 3 would be great - IF logos could be used in tablet mode.
Problems here:
Any hints?

Actually, the surface pros work quite well with Logos, because unlike several touch-only tablets, they have a stylus with which you can hover and scroll when touch isn't accurate enough. I use a pro exclusively for personal study myself.
Thank you, Paul!
Now that I've had a couple of weeks running Logos 6 on an Asus Vivo Tab Note 8 32 bit machine with 64 GB I am reporting how very pleased I am with my purchase. It is an absolute delight to have all the functions I need for working with the original languages when away from my study. True, sometimes the machine is "Not Responding" for a bit when I ask it to do more and more rapidly than it "likes". And I have managed to crash it a time or two. But with a bit of patience on my part it has proved very stable.
Again, my hearty thanks to all who coached me in making my selection.
So glad you are enjoying it.Thanks for the update. [:)]
