iPod Touch and WiFi

I may soon have an iPod Touch, but will not have access to Wifi (I don't think). I don't know exactly how the iPod works so I have a few questions:

1. Is there a way to connect an iPod to my computer and transfer resources instead of needing WiFi? (I have internet, just not WiFi.) This is how I always put things on my Palm, etc.

2. I have an Eee PC with WiFi. Can this communicate with the iPod? (I would still like to know the answer to question 1 since I don't generally have my EeePC on since it is only my travel computer.)

You won't be able to add resources via the usb cable when you sync your iPod. Wireless routers are relatively inexpensive these days so that aould be your easiest solution. You can setup your laptop to allow your iPod to acess the internet via its wireless card, but if it is Windows 7 Starter, that may not be the case (someone else who has used it before would have to answer that one). I would go with the router, though. I'm responding to this post using my iPod Touch on my wireless network at home. Just check www.newegg.com for some really good deals.

If you have a friend who is good with computers, you could set-up an "Ad-hoc" wireless network off of your wired connection. It's not that hard. It'll allow your wireless device (ipod touch) to connect to your computers wireless card and use the computer as a "channel" to it's wired connection, aka your internet connection.

That link is specifically for windows XP, (which is what most Eee PC's come with).

If you have windows 7, you might be out of luck (if you have starter edition). This post isn't that old, but it looks like you might be able to do ad-hoc with your netbook anyways,

Anyways, if you know somebody that is good with computers, they can set it up for you really easily. I do it all the time back at my school.

If I need to, I plan on using a program that turns my HTC Touch Pro phone into a wifi hotspot. Then connecting my iPod to it. but that only works if you have that phone and data plan...
