How would I find all the sermons that Spurgeon or for that matter, Luther, Whitefield, Wesley etc., preached?
mm.
In your own Library:
Was that what you meant?
In Logos 6 ---> {Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~Spurgeon}
This is such an amazing feature! Reason enough to upgrade to L6. And, as it so happens, it appears that all the tagging for Spurgeon's sermons has been completed.
(Not sure why there are sometimes more hits than articles, as in 76 hits in 74 articles (second to last in that screenshot)
The tagging for this feature is a work in progress, though. Only 1 by Luther has been tagged in my Library so far:
But I have lots:
Rosie, do you mind sharing what your other Spurgeon sermon resource is? I have both the MTPS and the NPSPS and your search results count is one more than mine. Thanks!
Thanks!!! That's exactly what I was looking for.
You're right it is an amazing feature. I can't wait till L7,8 and 9
I too only get 3558 results. Rosie must have a personally signed sermon by him. How much was it?
Thanks again.
Yes Dave that's exactly what I was looking for. [Y]
In your own Library: In Logos 6 ---> {Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~Spurgeon} In Logos 5 ---> run Sermon Starter Guide on Gen-Rev with only the Sermons section and a Collections section of All Resource Was that what you meant?
Rosie, do you mind sharing what your other Spurgeon sermon resource is?
I have (what is probably) the same additional one as Rosie - a sermon included in "The World's Great Sermons" - https://www.logos.com/product/18602/the-worlds-great-sermons
But don't worry - it is included in one of the Metropolitan Tabernacle sermon volumes[:)]

Thanks Graham! I love Spurgeon and I thought I was missing out [:)]
I seem to have everything but:https://www.logos.com/product/41783/ch-spurgeons-forgotten-prayer-meeting-addressesI wonder if those show up in the above resource counts? Guessing not as I also have 3559 sermons by Spurgeon.
I wonder if those show up in the above resource counts?
I don't have that resource either so they won't be included in the 3559 count.

Yes, that is the additional one I have.

This is great. Thanks Dave and Rosie.
And in keeping with the title of this thread you can search for all the sermons that Spurgeon preached in relation to Christmas - {Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~Spurgeon} AND Christmas
Or is there a better way to do this?
This is what I did. Which works fine until we have a fully populated sermon section. Its interesting that so few turned up. Would have thought in light of the upcoming season, they would have worked on the Christmas Tag a bit more. In any case:
Its interesting that no Spurgeon sermons show up in this section.
Alternatively I have a Sermon collection: (Subject:Sermon,Title:Sermon,Series:"Great Texts") -Subject:syllabi -Title:(Delivering,Prep,Starters,Sourcebook,Write) Which I could search for Author:Spurgeon AND Subject:Christmas, or else I could search Author:Spurgeon AND Christmas. However neither returns any results.
And in keeping with the title of this thread you can search for all the sermons that Spurgeon preached in relation to Christmas - {Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~Spurgeon} AND Christmas Or is there a better way to do this?
Try Christmas WITHIN {Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~Spurgeon}
Here is the full Sermon syntax that demonstrate most of the possibilities:
It is interesting that I did this and it came up with less results than what I previously did - see below. Why would that be?
Here is the full Sermon syntax that demonstrate most of the possibilities: {Label Sermon} -- all labels with specified class name {Label Sermon WHERE Series} -- labels that have the named property (with any value) {Label Sermon WHERE NOT Series} -- labels that don't have that named property {Label Sermon WHERE Series = The King and the Kingdom} -- exact string match {Label Sermon WHERE Series ~ Christmas} -- partial string match {Label Sermon WHERE Date = <Date Jul 9, 1989>} -- exact reference match {Label Sermon WHERE Date ~ <Date Jul 1989>} -- intersect reference match {Label Sermon WHERE References = <Bible Lk 2:1-21>} -- exact reference match {Label Sermon WHERE References ~ <Bible Lk 2:1-21>} -- intersect reference match {Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~ Spurgeon AND References ~ <Lk 2:1-21>} -- multiple properties
This is very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
I wish that I was more proficient in searching and have bookmarked this thread for future reference.
Note - see screenshot below - that the number of articles and resources are the same - it is just the number of hits which are different.
And I've expanded the top resource so we can see the number of hits in each sermon article.
In each case the search with "AND Christmas" has an extra hit.
Searching for the word within one of the articles shows that the "AND Christmas" search is "over-counting" by one - but I haven't been able to work out why!
With the "AND" search, you get one "result" (hit) for the sermon label, and one (or more) for the word "Christmas".
With the "WITHIN" search, the {Label} results are no longer counted, but only the highlighted instances of "Christmas". In both cases you got 104 articles, but with the "WITHIN" search, your eye can now jump directly to the specific place Christmas is mentioned.
Some other searches you could try:
These would find results like http://ref.ly/logosres/mtpserms29;ref=Page.p_1 which is a Christmas sermon even though it doesn't include that word.
It is interesting that I did this and it came up with less results than what I previously did - see below. Why would that be? Note - see screenshot below - that the number of articles and resources are the same - it is just the number of hits which are different.
I had not noticed that Graham. Thanks.

Thank you for explaining the difference. That is helpful to know.
