Lost most of library on iPhone and ipad
i was working with my favorite Bible on my iPad this morning, laid it down to cook dinner, went back to using it, and now all I get are errors messages saying it can't be found. In fact, most oF my library on my iPad and iPhone are gone now. Any else having this problem?

I'm having this same issue. I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.1.

I'm getting the same thing.

This is extremely troubling. Downloaded should mean "Downloaded" not kinda there at the whim of the mother ship. Still 69 resources only none of which I "downloaded." This is my first whiff of distrust.

I am having the same problem. I see the site is down but would not have expected that to prevent me from reading my "downloaded" books. It would be nice to know why...?

If y'all are having troubles with downloaded resources, I am unsure why. If they truly are downloaded and for some reason a connection to Logos is preventing you from opening them, going into airplane mode should fix that problem. I am not having this difficulty.
If y'all are having troubles with resources "in the cloud," Logos is having difficulties today. See the general forum for an explanation.

Then I guess that they are not truly downloaded. Airplane mode does not fix the problem and it seems that there are many people who are suffering with this.
I understand that the Logos Datacentre has had hardware failures, but once the dust has settled, it would be nice if Logos addressed this problem. Surely the best solution would be for our "downloaded" resources to be truly downloaded as with Kindle.

i'm having the same problem. Is it something to do with a corruption of the licence information stored in the app?

Me too ! [:|]
700+ resources that were local are showing up on my pad are now AWOL.
I have only five resources ... and I do not know why these 5: ESV KJV NKJV LEB 'Gospel Coalition Foundation'
I wonder if this is related to the latest logos.com failure. The whole point is that local resources should not be affected by a lack of internet ... I use my pad in an internet free zone much of the time. I wonder if, when connected to the internet, there is something in the connection protocols that Logos is using to validate my library (for updates perhaps). This is a sore point since it has failed before ... and lost local resources. BUG: Failure to connect/validate should not cause the app to crash, and data to be lost!!!
I suppose that I am not going to have to spend 3/4 days downloading the resources again. I do not know why it takes so long. it is not the connection speed, it is not iPad itself ... it is the speed that either Logos serves the data, or more likely, the speed that the iOS app processes it. BUG: Speed of resource download.
Having lost so many resources ... Logos is still showing a storage space of 7.7Gb according to the iPad settings. I have given Logos several restarts, and where it is no longer shouting about missing resources, it has not released the storage either. Look like another uninstall/reinstall.
Logos, this simply should not happen.
</rant> [:$]
BTW. When Logos.com went down, I had jus logged out, and logged in as my son, so that I could buy him a resource (his twin was going to be next).
I have just previewed this post and it seems to be using his name. I did not log out of the Forums, only .com. I take it that this is the same bug that requires us to log into Faithlife. Is there a way to stop this single log in/out?

I believe the problem is related.

It was not the lack of internet, but the failure of the datacentre. As you say, the Bible App must check with Logos, but I agree, it should not lose locally downloaded resources.

I don't expect to have to download resources again and I certainly would not advise you to uninstall/reinstall the App. Wait until Logos have their network back up and running and I am quite sure that things will return to normal. This problem will need to be addressed though.
Blessings,
Michael

The mobile apps stream resources from our servers, which are currently experiencing significantly degraded availability. You can follow progress toward resolution at the following thread.

At one stage during the night I could only see 6 resources on my ipad, then I changed to 67
I have just opened the app, gone into the homepage, and back to the library and it started updating library information so I can now see all my resources again.
But I currently only see 7 as downloaded whereas I thought i had a couple of hundred. This has now gone up to 140 as it sorts out indices

On my ipad which is running the latest production release, I also see a messed up library. I had a downloaded collection of a few hundred resources and this morning only see about 6 resources available to reference. I restarted the app and the library started rebuilding so now I see all the resources, but none are downloaded.
After a few seconds I see that resources are downloading and I check that those resources that were downloaded are in a status of "downloading". It looks like all the resources were deleted as I gained space on the ipad. So now I have a queue of resources being downloaded.
This did not occur on the iphone. The only difference is that the iphone has the latest beta version of the app. ( I had to remove the beta from the ipad as it wouldn't update after the release of ios 8).
Very strange behavior that I assume is related to the server issue. Not sure what the technical explanation is. So I wait for the resources to come back down.

My iPad gave me this error message later on ...
I am guessing that for some reason, the iOS app is checking licensing at startup ... and not behaving appropriately if cannot find the license server ... making the assumption that I have illegal resources instead!
I cannot see how this is possible, since I can only download resources through my Logos account, so this secondary check seems to be a little pointless ... either way, it does not seem to have been implemented robustly.

With my iPod, I decided not to use logos until I knew wifi was off ... and I was out of range ... and all behaved normally.
I do not know to what extent the relevant parts of the logos servers are back up now, but I have just switched on my iPad and the library seems to be showing all the resources that should be there. Using the local: modifier, all looks good EXCEPT that other than the 6 resources mentioned earlier, the i icons are white (not on the iPad) even though the local: filter suggests they are. My Logos 'Usage' is at 7.8Gb. That is, the iPad says they are there, the filter also, but the icon colours say otherwise.
Turning off wifi and restarting Logos shows about 50 resources now on my pad. ... I suspect I am now into the game of download prodding and status guessing.

The problem isn't streamed resources. Rather, as others have said, for some reason the iOS app decided to delete all locally downloaded resources when it received an error from the server. This points to a bug in the app that was activated by the server failure status.
I'm running the latest beta and had the problem.

Those of you who lost downloaded books, are they coming back for you? At one point I had only 8, now I have 14, which is still a lot less than I had before but something seems to be happening [Y]

After reading this I turned on the iPad again. It showed something like 17,480 resources. I went to home then back to library and now have 14 - only mobile ed resources. Back to home then library and it is back to 17,480 again. Nothing that was marked downloaded (choosing words carefully now) is not marked downloaded. This is a game changer for me. Downloaded should mean Downloaded. As soon as logos.com is back up I'm making big changes.

For me, the resource count in my iPad App library jumped to 14,889 and my PC resource count is 14,630. That doesn't make sense...unless it is duplicating resources, which I think it is. The iPad Bible App is continually trying to re-download all the resources to my iPad even though they are already all local and account for a total of about 50Gb (entire library) of my 64Gb iPad. I have deleted the App (third time in last three weeks) and will wait until mid-week before I re-install, delete the device from Logos.com, re-install the iPad Bible App and once again spend a day re-downloading the resources to the iPad.
Interestingly for my Faithlife and Vryso iPad Apps I was using them the entire weekend and while at Church today without any problems. I have a small fraction of my Logos library--my top bibles, couple of commentaries, dictionary, encyclopedia, and the books I am currently reading--downloaded to the Faithlife and Vryso Apps as my 'back-up' plan.

There are a number of reasons why it is STRONGLY recommended that you do NOT download large amounts of your library... Are you in an area without wifi (i.e. on the mission field)?

It finally ended up back at 308 local resources which sounds about right.
I just wanted to flag something here which may / may not be relevant as the development team try and understand what happened.
While the issues were going on, at times the app reported that I wasn't logged in which suggests it had lost my signed-in status
But more significantly I was able to continue reading a downloaded resource which I had been reading before this happened. I couldn't see the resource in my library but I could scroll through it, make notes in it etc.
This suggests to me that as well as some resources disappearing there were also issues with the index information
Hope this is useful to those who will try and get to the bottom of this

It would appear there is a problem with how some of our services handle failure or partial failure of other services. We'll investigate that and fix any errors we find when we have finished restoring services that are offline.

Some of us do live in areas that are technologically challenged. I am only 9 miles from the nearest cell phone tower but do the hills I have no service at my my home. Also my internet options for anything resembling high speed are 1... Satellite if there is a storm here it can go offline if the uplink centre on the east coast of Canada has a storm it can go offline. I know I am not the only person in North America who is underserved with bandwidth so wifi is not the answer always, and yes my wifi network is always up at home but if there is no internet connection it is just a ways to communicate with my hard drive media storage.

Thank-you for asking, I very much appreciate you wanting to help me out. I live in BC Canada on Vancouver Island. Normally I have great access to the internet at home, but there are many times that I spend a few days on the top of the island and on the west side. I also spend time in Northern BC. There are so many places that cell phone service does not exist, let alone internet connectivity. I used to spend 50% of my time travelling throughout North America and Europe. There are many times that internet connectivity was not an option or the fees to have internet connectivity simply prohibitive. The church that I have fellowship at and that I am very involved (P&W leader, member of the board) is on an even further island that I travel to at least once a week. There are many places just on that island that internet connectivity (specifically Wi-Fi) is flaky at best.
There are many times I want to refer to something that I know is in my library or search for something in my library when I am in a disconnected from any internet connectivity.
Could I use a free hotspot sometimes? Yes, but as a technical person in the IT Industry since the mid-80s I also know the risk of attaching to unsecured networks so I very seldom ever do. Could I use the personal hotspot function on my iPhone to allow my iPad to connect to the Internet and use it when I have decent cell phone service? Yes, sometimes.
Please know, I am NOT trying to give my life's story, but I am just giving lots of different scenarios that I personally have that always being tethered to the Internet is just not possible and sometimes I am disconnected for longer stretches of time. I have an iPad and I do not need to be (nor want to be) dragging around my laptop with L6 on it.
It is interesting because for many, many months I have never had a problem with the Bible App on my iPad. Periodically yes, but it has been in the latest Apple iOS release and last couple of iterations of the Logos/Faithlife iPad Bible App that I have been having problems. Also, I have contacted Faithlife technical support on a few occasions and they have never once suggested there was any problem in downloading all of my resources to my iPad. And further, I have asked them about this in the past and the response was that is not a problem--albeit the last time I asked the pointed question to them was when I only had 9,600 resources on my iPad.
I have seen other users in the forums that seem to have large numbers of resources downloaded permanently to their iPad. So, I am wondering if you could expand on the thoughts you shared in your post about what the "number of reasons why it is strongly recommended" not to download large number of our purchased books to our iPad.
I'll be honest with just under 15,000 resources I have the space on my iPad. "Download All" is a whole lot easier than trying to select which resources I might need in advance of needing them. I'll be frank, that does not appeal to me at all. And again, without sounding repetitive, I have run the iPad Bible App with my full set of resources downloaded to my device with next to know issues.

In cases like your's, you will have to choose your poison. The mobile app isn't a replacement for the desktop app. I know that I beat the "don't download too much" regularly which makes me and everyone else who reads it sick... but I do it because it really is best to not do so.

Sure. This is my advice, and you can choose to take it or leave it. [;)]
- The best fix for many problems is to reinstall, which means losing all of your downloaded resources... which is a pain.
- The more resources you have downloaded, the greater the possibility that the install will become corrupted, which will require you to reinstall.
- When you reinstall, the app wants to redownload everything you had downloaded. If that gets interrupted, you can get a corrupted install... which will require you to reinstall.
- When you have downloaded resources, you must keep up with updates for those resources. When you don't do a good job of that, there become conflicts... which isn't good.
I'll be honest with just under 15,000 resources I have the space on my iPad. "Download All" is a whole lot easier than trying to select which resources I might need in advance of needing them.
You can use a filter to download a subset of your library. For example: you could tag resources in your library as "mobile" (or whatever) and use the filter mytag:mobile to show only those resources. A press of "download all" will download just that set.
And again, without sounding repetitive, I have run the iPad Bible App with my full set of resources downloaded to my device with next to know issues.
And again, without <meaning> to be repetitive, you will have to live with the consequences of that choice. The mobile app isn't intended to be a replacement for the desktop app. If you want your entire library, a laptop would be a better choice.
