This command, from the Layout Menu and its equivalent, Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+X, do not seem to work for me.
Anyone else?
Michael
If you want to close the active layout and start over with a blank screen simply type 'close all' in the command box. If you want to switch from one layout to another use the layout menu
Better yet, type 'Close all' in the command box and then drag the command to the right to create a shortcut. Just click the icon and *poof* everything disappears!
Absolutely

Great! Thank you so much for that tip.
now, maybe Logos should take any reference of that command out if it is not going to work. That is a little frustrating to try and make something that say it does something to do it and and it never does.
oh well, those are the things one must live with when using Logos.
The wiki suggests Option-Command-W to close all panels, but that was from L4 so I don't know if it still works in L6.
Great! What do you know, the user provided wiki works where the in-app instruction does not. Ouch! That is a bit embarrassing.
Maybe it is a good thing that they do not produce a manual. Too much? [:$]
I know I have been a bit picky and harsh with Logos/Faithlife in these forums, but really! Is it too much to ask that a shortcut be labelled correctly? This falls into the "quality" discussion that has come up recently.
Close Layout does not close panels (that's what the "Close All" command does).
Close Layout keeps your current panels open, but disassociates the current active layout, so changes to your open panels don't affect the active layout.
The shortcuts are labelled correctly in the manual/help file.
I see that "Close all panels" is documented as Opt+Cmd+W under Mac Keyboard Shortcuts in the Help file; are you seeing something different?
Bradley,
I certainly did not mean any offense, though I can be a bit irritating sometimes in my frustration. I do apologize. This was the second issue in one short morning with Logos that was causing me some frustration. Again, my apologies if I was offensive.
However, I think there is a gap between how programmers label things and what "normal" users might label things. The fact of the matter is that both Fred and Richard knew exactly what I was talking about.
Sorry, but when I use layouts from the Layout menu, and a layout is every panel (because when I save a layout it saves every open panel, likewise, when I open a layout it closes every open panel and opens a whole new set of panels), then, I want to close all the panels (i.e. a layout), I intuitively want to go to the command in the same menu that says, "Close Active Layout". I would think that it would close all the panels that it opened. However, when I use a command and there is no visual or audible feedback to indicate that it has done anything at all, I think it is simply not working. This is just my "normal" user logic of what I have come to intuitively expect.
This is so counterintuitive to me. Perhaps, if there were a "Close All" command above or below the "Close Active Layout" command I might begin to suspect that the latter served a less than expected function.
If I want to update a layout I choose, "Update Current Snapshot". I had assumed that "snapshot" was an inconsistent naming for Layout. Was I wrong? Do you mean to say that my last chosen layout will auto-update? I have not experienced that behavior.

It is subtle, but there is a visual indicator: the name of the layout no longer appears in the program title bar "Logos Bible Software - [name of active layout]". I have found this feature helpful, when I want to play around with things, not sure if I'll like it or not. I can temporarily "step out" of my layout but leave all my tabs and panes open. I guess we could do this before by saving the old layout and immediately starting a new one, but I like this method too.
Another layout feature that also has a very (very!) subtle indication that it has worked is "update active layout". I have this pinned to the top shortcut bar (a big down-pointing arrow). It took me a while to realize that when I click it, the "sync" circle of arrows darkens, showing there is new info waiting to sync.
Hang in there! There are lots of little goodies in Logos 6, and I seem to discover a new one almost every time I use it.
It does still work in 6. I use it frequently. Easier than typing Close All or even putting a link on the toolbar.

Thanks for this feedback; I agree that there's no point in our providing a feature if you can't find it easily or if it doesn't do what you expect. I'll file a feature request to see if we can come up with better wording for these commands.

Bradley, thank you for your patience in helping me understand this feature and my confusion. I do continue to think the labeling of the command in the menu is vague for an average user. However, I am beginning to see the usefulness of it and the need for it in certain situations.
However, when I try to use "ctrl-opt-cmd-L" to update the active layout nothing happens. If I use the menu item it works. Am I missing something?
Also, thanks to the others for offering the tips to close all tabs. Very nice tips.
There is no visible indication when you use Ctrl-Opt-Cmd until you reload the layout. If you look at the snapshot in the Layouts menu, you will see the updated layout, but unless you made a big change, it may not be noticeable.
Thanks Jack, However, ctrl-opt-cmd-L does not work for me. When I reload it is not updated. It works if I actually click the command in the Layouts menu. I also made a shortcut in the bar and that works. But I would like to use the shortcut. I am using beta 3 on Mac.

I am also using Beta 3, and the shortcut keys work for me. Perhaps you should start a new thread and post your logs. See the Mac Logging link in my signature if you need assistance with that.
