how much data space do I need on iPad to download 5,500 books? I am thinking to download my entire library. Should 10gb be enough since indexing doesn't take much space. I know different books take different space, but approximate number would be helpful

A lot will depend on how many "large" resources you have.  For example one could have a large number of journals that don't take up much space.

FWIW I have 745 resources on the Ipad and it shows usage for Logos at 4.1 GB.

Downloading large numbers of resources isn't recommended.

Bruce how much data space do you have on Desktop that would probably help me to see the deference

I would be curious to know this comparison too, thanks.

That won't be of much help to you as I have chosen not to download all the resources that I have.

I have about 15gb on the desktop.  There are 2738 resources in the library of which the ios app library shows 2665 available to download.  I have chosen to only put a subset of those on the ipad, 745.  I suppose you could do a ratio to get a ballpark number, but I think a lot will depend on what type of resources you are putting down. I would assume that you would probably need the equivalent of the space on the PC folder if you downloaded everything you could.

It can be a hassle to maintain a large amount of data.  One of the issues is that you might have to remove and re-install the app or it might have issues.  The other day I had to re-install it and it took a bunch of time to rebuild the library.

Again, it isn't advised to download large amounts of resources, unless you live away from WIFI.

I would recommend downloading your primary resources you use daily. Generally your Bible will function faster if it is downloaded. I do keep a larger amount of resources on my iPad than Alabama would recommend but I am often out of wifi/cell coverage.

Inadvisable as in problems? Or as in "not worth it?"

I ask because I am thinking of transferring to ipad from Android, and would like to have access to my whole library if I have to travel to a place without wi-fi when I work.

    Problems.

The mobile app isn't supposed to be a replacement for the desktop / laptop app. Many features require internet.

I would suggest you think about this first.

I don't have a large library by some standards...about 2200 resources. Of those, approximately 65% have never been accessed, not even one time. To have those downloaded to my iPad would be silly at best. If I download all the resources that I've accessed double-digit times in the past year, that would mean I have about four dozen downloads. I can do almost everything I need to do (at least, have done) with those resources.

It would make more sense to download only those resources that you've accessed a minimal number of times. If there are a few particular monographs that you've never accessed, but know you want to read, add those to the list.

    FWIW.

OK, what you say makes sense, and scrolling through my Mac library does reveal a lot of junk I forgot/didn't know I had and won't need.

Thanks for putting it in perspective.

Resource sizes vary so there isn't an approximate number to give you.  For example, a single Mobile Ed resource (when downloaded with media) can easily take 5 GB (5,000,000 KB) of space, but a monograph can take less than 1 KB.  Also, many of your 5,500 resources might not be available for download to the mobile apps... there are simply too many factors.

With that many resources, if you don't have 30GB free on your device I wouldn't attempt it.

thank you everyone for help, I think i will put this idea to rest since it might take more than 20gb...
