Creating "note by reference" without text is rejected in Android but not in Windows

Scenario:

I use some note documents as simple collection of tagged passages on a give topic: I want the icon to show in the text and I want to be able to review the note file for all the passages that I have tagged.

In Windows, I select the passage, create a note by reference, select the icon and I am done. I don't enter any text.

In Android, I do the same thing, but it discards the note because there is no text. I have to enter something (I enter "qq") and then later delete "qq" from within Windows version.

Why the difference?

Please change, pretty please?

I've created a separate style using the Highlighting tool in the desktop app that I use to mark text I want to come back to for notes, or further study. We now have the ability in 6.0a to search for highlights which makes it easy to get to all or specific highlight styles using the search tool or inline search.

Here's the relevant section from the release notes:

Added support for the full style path when searching using Highlighting styles:

{Highlight Palette Name/Style Name} – useful if multiple palettes have a style with the same name but you want to find just one
{Highlight Palette Name/*} – all styles in that palette
{Highlight "Palette / Name" / "Style/Name"} – for palettes or styles that contain a slash in the name

The only problem with this is I now have to go back through all my highlights and change their styles so I can have them better organized!

I don't use highlighting much (at least in the Bible) because it is only visible in that version. Notes appear across all Bible version.

Unfortunately, I don't have any money to upgrade to 6.0.

Any insight as to why I can create a note with no text in the Windows version, but not in the Android version?

The simple answer (not an official Faithlife answer) is that they are different applications.

One is the full function Logos 5 / 6 software - the other is an application for mobile devices which provides access to your resources.

It looks as though the Android team made a conscious design decision to not allow empty notes whereas the desktop team didn't

It will be interesting to see if either change[:)]

The iPad app behaves the same way as the Android app - which is not surprising as there is a lot of commonality across those platforms.

I guess the "why" could be answered different ways.

As per your answer, different apps can certainly be programmed to function in different ways. The question would be, why would they want it to function in different ways?

I discovered this difference the hard way after (thinking I was) adding a lot of notes only to discover that they were all discarded. If it is a "required field," the code should require you to add something. Even now, I occasionally forget to add some "dummy text" just so the note will be added.

One positive difference on the Android side is that you can select the note document from all your notes; in the Windows app, you have to have it opened before you can attach a note.

It would be nice, where possible, to have consistency between the different platforms. (And I do know that a phone app can't have all the features of the desktop apps.) I don't think this is one of those where it is not possible.

Indeed that is very helpful
