Bug: Resources not working ... repeatable crashes ... only when offline.

I am working offline.

I cannot change verse in my bible. I can select from the list but it does not change. I can type in a reference, but it does no change. If I scroll forward (I was at John 1:14) I can go as far as the end of John 1, after that there is no further resource.

I have a commentary open in the other panel, I can read forward a few of pages as normal, and then it will not scroll any further ... Almost as if the book is not downloaded.

I can see books in my library and select them ... But they do not appear. To be a little more specific, when the ESV stopped working I chose the NIV from the library by clicking on the ESV resource name. The title NIV appeared, but the screen below was empty. Clicking on the app the caused it to crash ... I was suddenly looking at my iPad menu. This total crash has happened multiple times, and is repeatable.

I think that it relates to the same offline issues that we saw with the great server crash of a few weeks ago.

All resources are stored locally . At least according to the library, and to the storage use as reported in the iPad's setting.

FWIW the app is also extremely sluggish. Clicking on a margin to go to the next page sees a rotating wheel every time before the page changes. I have an iPad 4, so should not see this for turning a page, and have never seen this before.

At the moment, I cannot use logos to even simply read the bible! Any news of an updated release?

<update> I am now back online and the resources are now working normally ... Except that the library and page turning is still extremely so slow, complete with the spinning wheel appearances.

I have emailed logs according to the instructions in the sticky thread at the top of this forum. I presume that there is a reason (security?) that prevents me from simply attaching them here as I would do with desktop apps instead of sending a separate email ...

Try removing and redownloading the resources with the problem. There was a server problem a couple weeks ago that caused some downloads to have bad data.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the iOS app, with a shutdown in between, but the re-installed app does not want to download my resources. After two hours, it has downloaded 1 resource ... the LEB, plus all of my note files etc.

Is there a way to force a resource download, and is there a way to check progress? I have unloaded the app a couple of times. Restarting does not seem to do much. I do not even get the spinning indicator on the homepage (above the home button).

I do not believe that it is a function of speed, I am on a 100 meg internet link ... and the firewall has not blocked it (I presume) because the LEB is there ... and if it has blocked it ... how would I tell?

What happens if you try and trigger a download of a specific resource from within the iPad app itself?

Trying to understand whether what you are seeing is a "refusal" to download under control of the desktop software or if there is something stopping downloads to actually happen.

Unfortunately there are some cases where automatic redownloading after reinstall will not work. If all apps from a vendor are uninstalled, when an app is reinstalled, iOS will give the app a new hardware device ID, even though it's actually the same device.

You may need to manually download the resources you want in the app, or use mobile device management in the the desktop app.

Thanks Dave ... that has got it. It has appeared as a new device, and a quick collection allowed me to mirror the selected resources onto the new device, and then to remove the old device ... just waiting for all the resources to download now.

Very interesting. So it would be helpful when a user needs to do a reinstall of an app to make sure he/she has another one of the apps currently installed on the device, right?

I was thinking the same thing. Keep an install of Vyrso (in my case) around to prevent this edge case.
