Highlighting Search question

How do I see all the passages I've highlighted in one reference? Though I can limit a search to one resource, and certain highlighters, I can't leave the query blank and just find every highlighted passage.

I also can't simply limit the Notes I look at to one resource. I tried scrolling through to find it, but gave up after 10 minutes.

Suggestions?

Have you set up your notes files per resource? That would be the easiest way. Of course, if you haven't, then that method is moot. In my monographs, I make a notes file named for the resource so my highlights go to that file (a holdover from the Kindle and the personal highlights page that Amazon provides).

I'm guessing there are ways to search for highlights by resource, but that's not something I've done so I'm worthless in that regard. But I'll be watching for a real answer because it is something that I'd like to know how to do.

I recently answered this question on another thread, so I'll just point you to my answer there rather than trying to reconstruct it from memory or copying/pasting it here, if that's OK: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/97104/669553.aspx#669553 (between that post and the following one, you should be able to do it)

Bottom line: to find every highlighted passage, update to Logos 6.0a if you haven't already (it's shipped/stable), and then you'll have access to the Highlight search feature which I described in the first of those two posts. With that feature, you can use the wildcard character (*) to search for all highlighting (instead of leaving the query blank, which as you rightly pointed out above does not do the trick). So you'll be able to search for what you want using {Highlight *} as the search text. No need to select the highlighters in the search fields, as this will find all highlighting, no matter what the highlighting style. But you will want to limit the search to the one resource.

Note that this will not be able to show you the full extent of each highlighted passage if some of them are longer than a line or two (the context which shows up in search hits). For that, you'll need to use the suggestion I gave in the second of my two posts at that link above.

Logos 6 has implemented a {Highlight} search extension which means you can search for palettes or styles in your resources without having to use a wildcard search term e.g.

{Highlight *} ---> finds all highlights in the collection/resource you nominate using Bible Search ("All bible text") and Basic Search.("All text")

{Highlight Favorite Highlight} —> finds all passages highlighted with the ‘Favorite Highlight’ style.

If you want to get really fancy, try

{Highlight *} WITHIN {Milestone <Bible Lk>} ---> finds all highlights in the gospel of Luke. You don't need this for a bible, but it is useful if you highlighted a commentary!

This is such a great addition! I am a highlighter, and now I am going to highlight even more.

One way that I highlight is that I highlight good illustrations that I find with the orange highlighter. So, now, if I want to find illustrations relating to grace I can do this search: grace WITHIN {Highlight Orange Highlighter}

I also highlight questions in the text (the author's questions, not mine) with the blue highlighter. So if I am looking for questions (and the following answer) regarding grace, I search: grace WITHIN {Highlight Blue Highlighter}

I think this feature needs more publicity, because it's one of the great additions to Logos in my opinion.

It was always possible to find a word within a style e.g. find "purpose" in my Red Underline style:-

[This can also be done with a Basic search].

However, searching for all instances of the style meant a long search with the wildcard *. So I was really excited that Logos 6 now makes it possible to search for {Highlight Red Underline}.

Yes...I found the previous way of searching for highlights to be slow all around. I almost never used it.
