How do I highlight a verse in all translations?

I have figured out how to make a note on a specific verse and have that note appear on that verse no matter what translation I am looking at, but I cannot seem to figure out how to do the same for highlights. Can anyone please help me? I'd like to highlight an entire verse in a way that it will show up no matter what translation I am looking at. Does that make sense?

Thanks in advance for any help on this that can be given!

It does, but this is not implemented in Logos, highlights are by definition notes by selection, not by reference. One technical reason for this is the implementation of references: a highlight would not only color the verse(s) in all bibles, but also in all commentaries on that verse, potentially highlighting whole books.

Oh I see, because it works off of milestones huh? I hadn't thought of that before. I guess I'm just used to the way other Bible apps do it. I know in the Accordance app it does cross-translation highlighting and it's really nice because I don't have to re-highlight all my favorite verses in every translation.

I wonder if there's a way to get around the milestone issue. Couldn't the app choose to only show the highlights on a Bible verse milestone if the resource type is "bible" or something? Perhaps there's a better way.

  • Timothy, sounds like a good suggestion for Logos 7.

It would - presumably - also need to take into account different versification schemes.

No. It works "by selection." With the current implementation of highlighting, you select paragraphs, sentences, phrases, words, or even single characters. That is exactly what "by selection" means. By definition, a selection is resource specific. The request to have highlighting across translations is persistent, but even then you would need to define what is desired. Some users want to have ALL of a verse highlighted (even if the verse begins with the end of another sentence) across all translations. Other users want to highlight certain words or clauses and then have the highlighting reflected based upon the underlying lemma. These are three different types of highlighting with three completely different set of rules!

I would certainly NOT want the later two definitions turned on by default, and especially if it meant the elimination of what we currently have. There are times where I might like part of a verse highlighted across multiple translations, but it would need to be based upon the ENGLISH wording... which can only be done by hand.
