The four journal bundles are now on Pre-Pub:
The old Master Journal Bundle will be retired. If you pre-ordered it, you'll need to cancel it and pre-order the new one, which has close to 300 additional volumes that the old one didn't have.
I hope these collections meet your needs. They represent some of the deepest discounts we've ever done.
Which collection do you plan to buy? I picked 1280 vol with dynamic $425 only
Phil, will those journals run on moble devices?
Yes.
that's awesome 👍. Thank you Phil for you time and fast replies
Numbers of journals have "article citations" in the information pane - but many seem not to - can these be enhanced to include them please! They all should, eventually. I'm not sure if they all will when the Pre-Pubs ship, but I'll check with the team to see if we can make that happen. I think I speak for a lot of users when I say we would rather have all the tagging done before a product ships than get it earlier without the tagging and have to wait for an update for it to be really useful. I know that seems counter to Faithlife's normal modus operandi, but I wish the production team would reconsider priorities and do this. They'll always be playing catch-up if they don't do it right the first time, and it gets users really frustrated. Thanks for the feedback, Rosie. I'll pass that on and discuss it with the team.

The team assures me that our current approach is to get all the tagging work done before shipping. Let me know if there are instances where that's not currently happening.
You're welcome!
Maybe a silly question..([:(] ) But what is the usefullnes / added value of Journals?
As a laymen I use Logos for biblestudy (Wordstudy, textstudy) and I already invest a lot in i.a. commentaries, dictionaries and basepackages (L4 Platinum, L5 Diamond, L6 Platinum).
Thanks for any explanation!
Blessings, Wim
Mainly Journals are useful at the academic level. They have several advantages but the two main ones are timeliness, this is why people are so vocal about the speed at which we acquire these in Logos, the longer it takes the more this value is lost,, and the other is depth. With 15-30 k words in an article one can go very deep into study on John 11:35. Hope this helps.
Journals provide detailed discussions on a topic, passage, etc. Newer journals often contain fresh ideas that you won't see in your commentaries. Some categories of books like commentaries can often cover the same ground over and over again. Journals offer fresh ideas and insights.
Thanks to the new journals feature in Logos 6 and the special tagging we add to journals, you can now find journal articles that are about a passage of Scripture (Romans 8) or a topic (e.g., sanctification) you're studying (rather than just containing a mention of it). That means you'll see relevant journal articles showing up in your Passage Guide and Topic Guide. We plan eventually to tag journal articles by lemma, too, so down the road you might even see relevant journal articles showing up in your Bible Word Study Guide.

Thanks for your work on all this Phil. Any chance of getting dynamic pricing on the current version of JETS? I have all but 2 and it's asking for full price.

It's a third-party product, and I don't think we can do DP on it. Your best option is probably to wait until we offer our edition. We're pushing hard to acquire the remaining journals. Hopefully it won't be too long before we get them.
Hey Phil,
I appreciate your quick responses on so many questions. If this is a repeat, please forgive; I cannot find it anywhere else.
Can you help me understand why JBL only goes back to 1981? That happens to coincide with the volumes I have. Is it possible that earlier volumes will be included?
Thanks!
Lew

Hi Wim,
Even though I have used the Journals for academics, I also use them often in my Bible teaching. I can remember when I was teaching through Zechariah, and I came to Chapter 4. Just about every commentary I checked in Logos concerning the "lampstand vision" referred to the same journal article in their comments, but not one of them had the drawing of the lampstand or a lot of the details that were supposedly mentioned in that article. This was a case where a Journal article would have been more helpful than commentaries. Unfortunately at that time, Logos did not have the journal for that particular article, but some times they do. At that time I was able to track down the author and he so graciously sent me the article himself! BUT hopefully in the future, Logos will have all the articles that I need! [:)]
Answer here.

Did you fill out the form Phil linked us to? That's what will count going forward.
Yes sir! that was what the [Y] was for. Sorry I was a little cryptic.
Phil,
Is it possible to create a collection for just the most current volume of each journal, a TJL 2013/14? Personally, I am most interested in the the current articles. (Although I do see value in the older ones as well.)
Done
Personally, I am most interested in the the current articles.
You may well know what you are asking for, but in my mind doing this would be imposing a serious limitation on your study. Many journals publish only 1 issue a year, with 4 being the maximum. Each volume has about 5-6 major articles. A one or two year collection wouldn't cover too many topics or scripture passages. (You might also miss Part One which appeared in last year's journal.)
Most articles don't go out-of-date in a year. (These aren't news magazines.) Some very current theological issues have been developing over years and the most recent article alone will leave you with only a partial understanding of the issue.
If you were going to limit yourself time-wise I'd open the window up to at least five years. I believe ten years would be even better.
As I said, you may know exactly what you are looking for so take my comments with that understanding.
Yes, that's possible, but that would result in a very small 16-volume collection. Is that really what you're looking for? We've tried to create as few collections as possible to meet the most common needs. Creating custom collections for everyone would be quite labor intensive. We're open to creating others where there's demand. It would be good to hear if others have the same desire.

Very pleased to see the TJL pre-pub info.. Disappointed at all of the missing content vis-a-vis the old Galaxy TJL. And surprised that though the content of the new collection is greatly reduced from the Galaxy version, the price of the new collection actually went up by more than 10%. Paying more for less is not what I've come to expect from Logos.
I thought the same thing and then reviewed the following:
I do not have the older volumes that were sold separately from the TJL annual updates. The pricing per Phil is .50 per volume. So I am getting around 16 new volumes and around 100 older bibliotheca volumes for $56. Based on the .50 per volume, the additional 21 missing volumes, assuming we own TJL 1-15 should be around $10 with dynamic pricing. Phil can confirm.

We're working on it. You can help us prioritize which TJL journals to get next by filling out this form.

I'm not sure I follow. Galaxie priced their journals at $1 per journal volume. Each year they'd release another 50 volumes and sell them for $50. Our TJL Upgrade bundle is priced at half that. We're offering 400 journals for $200. I'm not sure how that amounts to paying more for less. What am I missing?
Here's a question Phil: If you are able to add, say JETS, and we preordered a bundle, will our price go up, or will we get it at the current rate.
FWIW, I put my order in for the Upgrade Bundle.
The annual update for Galaxy's Theological Journal was $50.00. My dynamic pricing for Logos' TJL update is $56 but, as has been noted by several posters, a large number of the journals included in Galaxy's collection are missing from Logos' TJL update. Having read your posts, I understand why they are missing but it does appear that I will be paying more for updates to fewer journals.
A side-note, i have already filled out the form about which journals I consider a priority.
My dynamic pricing for Logos' TJL update is $56
Have you checked how many new volumes you get for that $56? I bet it is closer to 100 than 50.
What was the last TLJ that Logos offered? I didn't have any of those volumes, but I was thinking it was 15??? The TJL offered on Accordance and WordSearch is 16. The volumes listed in the new TJL Upgrade exceed those in TJL 16 offered on those sites (as can be seen in the comparison chart, see both the "Journals" tab and the "TJL (1-16)" tab). Seems nearer the equivalent of two upgrades or am I wrong about the last Logos offering of TJL?
What was the last TLJ that Logos offered?
Volume 15.
We don't plan to ship these until they are complete. We may not wait until they are fully funded like we typically do with Pre-Pubs. We want to get them to you all as soon as possible. I'm afraid I can't give a complete date estimate right now. Assuming they are well received and get lots of pre-orders, I'd guess they could ship in 4–6 months. But please don't quote me on that.
I'm confused...The thread title says New Journal bundles are here, but there really not right? And according to the last thread the Master Journal Bundle was days away from shipping with in a week Phil said which turned to weeks and now it's canceled, and then you added 279+ books to the bundle that wasn't finished and now you say four to six months to ship date. Not happening...
Here's where I think there's confusion: you're focused on number of journals, not number of journal volumes. It is true that the Galaxie product had a broader coverage in terms of number of distinct journals included (36 vs. 16), but that doesn't make it a better value—just (arguably) more diverse. Journals are made up of volumes, which are made of of issues, which are made up of pages. It seems to me that the amount of content (pages, issues, or volumes) is a better metric for comparing value (assuming a similar quality) than the distinct number of journals included.
What we're giving you for $56 is probably 112 volumes of journal content. What you'd get with the Galaxie journals for $50 is 50 volumes of journal content. Looking at the quantity of content, you can see you're getting quite a bit more for your money. If diversity is more important to you, you may want to consider the Theology Journal Bundle, which includes 36 distinct journals and 780+ volumes for $399.95 on Pre-Pub for a cost per volume price of $0.51 ($549.95 regular price or $0.70 per volume). As a point of reference, TJL 1–16 includes 35 or 36 journals (depending on how you slice them) and 800 volumes for $695 for a cost per volume price of $0.87.
Even more diverse is the Master Journal Bundle, which has ~60 distinct journals (including a couple more journal-like magazines) and 1,280+ journal volumes for $599.95 for a cost per volume price of $0.47.
You're correct. The TJL product was just recently updated to include journal volumes from 2013. There's typically at least a year delay between when they come out and when they get added to the product. In our TJL Upgrade product, we released several 2014 volumes, which gives you access to the content sooner.
Having gone through the list of Journals offered in the TJL update (14 Journals according to the webpage) and looking at my library, the total of new volumes that will be added to my library is 151. Of these, 90 are Bibliotheca Sacra (from 1844-1933) and 17 are Journal of Ministry and Theology (not in Galaxie's collection). That leaves 34 new volumes that are of recent or current Journals. That is what I meant when I said we were getting less for more. Galaxie gave more volumes of current journals for less money ($50 vs $56). I recognize that there is a certain value in back issues of BibSac and I hope that there will be good value in the Journal of Ministry and Theology but the value of the collection is greatly diminished (in my opinion) by the absence of the twenty or so current journals that are not present. Again, I understand that there are licensing issues that Logos is working to overcome.
If you are able to add, say JETS, and we preordered a bundle, will our price go up, or will we get it at the current rate.
We won't add anything to these collections before we ship them.
Here's how I see things working:
As I mentioned elsewhere, I'd like to see us offer new journal content to these collection multiple times a year, perhaps even quarterly. Of course, you wouldn't need to purchase each new round of products. You could skip and participate only once a year if you wanted to. Whenever you chose to buy, you'd always get caught up with everything you missed since you last bought.
I'm confused...The thread title says New Journal bundles are here, but there really not right?
I didn't create the thread title, but I think the original poster meant that they are here on Pre-Pub.
And according to the last thread the Master Journal Bundle was days away from shipping with in a week Phil said which turned to weeks and now it's canceled, and then you added 279+ books to the bundle that wasn't finished and now you say four to six months to ship date. Not happening...
I'm not sure what you're referring to, but the first Master Journal Bundle was never anywhere near shipping. Shortly after we posted it, we realized that there were some problems we need to fix, so we pulled it.
Our goal is to get these out the door as soon as we can, but it's a massive amount of content to produce. So it's going to take some time.
Here's how I see things working: You pre-order the TJL Upgrade Bundle. We license JETS. We ship the current TJL Upgrade Bundle. We post a new TJL Upgrade Bundle that includes JETS and anything else we've licensed since posting the first one. You pre-order the new TJL Upgrade Bundle and pay only for the new items that weren't included in the original TJL Upgrade Bundle. Repeat 2–5.
I hope what you describe also will apply to the current TJL Bundle. For people who already own many or most of the journals in this bundle, should there be an adjusted (i.e. dynamic) price when the bundle is fully released in September?
thanks,
David

David, the best way to find out is to see the dynamic price for you versus the regular price for someone who does not own the journals.
Hello Lynden,
The bundle that I am asking about is this:
https://www.logos.com/product/46387/tjl-upgrade-bundle
If that is the price on release day, I think I will drop that purchase.
Dynamic pricing is included when I view the linked page. I am showing a total of $55.36. If I log out of my Logos account it shows as $199.95. (I own all the prior TJL bundles offered by Logos)
It shows 30$ for me, 38 if I buy the "give me the journals now option".
Ok. I didn't know dynamic pricing worked on pre-pub items. I learned something new. [8-|]
thanks
