Okay I am a little new. What is the best way to keep up with the forums? I don't want to miss anything but...I signed up yesterday and I am being FLOODED with emails. Should I do something different?
I don't even attempt to keep up with all the forum posts. I don't have any alerts or emails coming to me except on ones that I originate a post. Otherwise, I scan the Logos4 forum posts once or twice (ok, sometimes 3 or 4) times a day for post titles that look interesting or that I have responded to previously. I have found you can waste invest a great deal of time on the forums. In the long run, this pays dividends because you learn neat tricks from people who are brilliant at using Logos. But, you have to learn to discipline yourself. Do I really need to read all those 25 pages of posts on how to Hijack a thread?
Don't bother getting all the emails, there are too many contributors and topics to be of use to you. Go to the homepage and you can look at the different forums. I recommend paying the most attention to the Logos 4 forum (unless one of the other forums is of special interest). Only read threads with topics interesting to you. If you want to follow a particular thread then you can sign up for emails from just that thread.
Also, on the homepage there is a link "Your Discussions" I use it frequently. There you can keep up with the threads you have commented on.
Finally, read the wiki ( wiki.logos.com ), A lot of times the most useful of the forum content ends up there.
You can also use RSS feeds to keep up with different aspects of forum activity in feed readers (I use Google Reader).
For instance, to subscribe to new threads use: http://community.logos.com/forums/aggregaterss.aspx
You can also subscribe to feeds to keep up with posts from individual contributors that you find particularly helpful. The most helpful posts tend to attract some of the more knowledgeable contributors.
To do this:
I find that these are a couple of ways to stay connected to the most helpful posts without having to read everything.
I use the RSS feeds and subscribe to the forums I am interested in (most, except for like the Mac forum and the iPhone forum). So then the messages all come into my Gmail account, I set up a filter rule so they all are located in their own label area. I am then able to breeze through and look at the headers, if something interests me I can click and read the unread, or hit Expand all and re-read the whole thread. Most importantly, through GMail I have a wonderful, powerful, and instantaneous search of the forums messages if I have to find something I read in the past.
