Reading in AIrplane mode
On a recent trip I tried to use my iPhone as a reader in Airplane mode. However, even though I downloaded my complete library, only the books (in two panes) that I had open were able to be read--I couldn't open any other books. Also, those books let me read the rest of the current chapter or so, but then stopped loaded when in Airplane mode.
Is this a known bug, or did I run into something new? Or is it a known limitation? It doesn't make sense to me that a downloaded book couldn't be read in toto when in Airplane mode.

There were some problems a few weeks ago (I forget the exact time) where a number of people saw something similar to this.
Normally downloaded resources should be fully readable when in airplane mode.
I suggest you check whether this is still an issue for you at the moment and - if so - it can be looked into further.

Just tried it again on Airplane mode...same problem. [:(]

Three possible steps to get things working, starting with easiest.
1) Kill the app and restart it.
2) On the "Home" screen in the app, type "rebuild index" into the text field and hit "Go." This rebuilds the library index of your device resources. This can take a few minutes, and for me has on occasion needed the app to be restarted to complete.
3) Uninstall and re-install the app. For many people, myself included, that was the only thing that solved the side effects of the Logos server outage that happened a few weeks ago. If you have hundreds (or more) downloaded resources, you might wait to see if anyone else jumps in with other suggestions before taking this step.

Hi Donnie, thanks for the tip--however, I tried typing "rebuild index" and nothing happened...no pinwheel or anything else; it just sat there. That's after closing all apps, completely powering down and re-starting, with only the Logos App running.

Hi Daniel
For a book which you can't read more than a couple of pages when in airplane mode - what happens if you "remove" it and download it again when online?
Is it then properly readable in airplane mode?

Thanks Graham, that seemed to work! [:D]
That's good news/bad news: it's good that I have a solution; it's bad because it suggests that I need to remove all books and re-install them to read them offline. [:'(]

That's useful to know - it sounds as though something was corrupted somewhere

That may be the best option - though it is possible that someone from the Faithlife team will come up with a better one.
If you do go down the remove / redownload roue it is probably easiest to delete the app and reinstall it. This should trigger a redownload of all the resources you had previously downloaded.

Yeah, I hope I don't have to delete and reinstall. I have quite a few resources, and I'd hat to take the time to re-download all of those.
Faithlife, anyone there with a better solution?

I do not have my entire Library on my iPhone or iPad, that said I have a very significant chunk of it at a little over 1100 resources installed. I have not had any issues using offline mode, other than I really want passage guide and greek hebrew tags to get supported in Airplane mode. I wish I could be of more help with more ideas... in the box at the top of your library what happens if you enter local: (this should give you a view of all downloaded files).

I had the same problem specifically with The Bible Knowledge Commentary by Walvoord and Zuk. I could only read a couple of pages offline and when I went home it worked. I thought it was resolved. Same problem next day with the same book. When I got home I removed it and re-downloaded it to my iPad. This also happened to a different book but I don't remember which one. Like you Daniel, I keep a lot of my resources on my iPad and hope that I won't have to do that to the entire library.

Update: I ended up deleting the app and re-installing, and re-downloading all of my resources (an incredibly time-consuming process.) It now works in Airplane mode just fine. I just wish that there had been a better solution, and I hope no one else has to go through this.

I empathize and agree with you... FWIW - this is one of the reasons I try to persuade people to be judicious in their downloaded resource list. The best fix for some issues is often a complete reinstall. This is especially true due to glitches after iOS updates
