Reading Plan Woes

I know that this has been raised before, because I have been reading the posts about the lack of support between L6 and the Bible! app with reading plans. I like many others here am disappointed that this hasn't been sorted yet with a new year upon us.

It almost feels like the emphasis is been put on getting us to use the new bible reading app, which to be honest is not helpful at all. I downloaded this app today to have a look at it but, this app doesn't allow me to do any study, and why would it that's not its purpose. So now if I use the new app and see something I want to follow up, I need to exit the bible reading app, open up the Bible! app, navigate to the reading and then do my study from there..

That seems like an unecessary work around when we have already got a means for accomplishing not just bible reading but also devotional bible study.

As others have please Logos help us out and get this sorted please, this isn't a nice addition but a must...

Regards

    Please see https://community.logos.com/forums/p/94371/682489.aspx#682489

You keep referring people to that post and it doesn't give any information. That's like telling someone to go read the foyer bulletin board when they ask for the worship times and all they see is an empty bulletin board.

    Here's what the post says:

"Logos 6 custom reading plans (or those divided by chapter/pericope) are not yet supported in the mobile apps.  We intend to add support in a future version."

The problem is actually with the forums. He is linking to his own post, but for some reason the link is failing to take you to the post. Instead, it takes you to the top of the thread.

Sorry about the forum link problem, I was unaware of this and still am unable to reproduce it.  I'll ask the web team about it tomorrow.

The reason I referred to the link instead of typing the same thing again was to avoid having to type the same response multiple times in multiple threads.

    EDIT:

All non-custom Logos 6 reading plans (and those not divided by chapter/pericope) work just the same as they did before Logos 6 was released.  If you find this not to be the case please let us know.  So, if you *must* have a reading plan on your mobile device today, please create one as you would have two months ago before Logos 6 was released.

Getting new Logos 6 reading plans syncing to the mobile apps is a priority.

It's not exactly new. I first reported it on October 25...

The cutsom reading plans in Logos 6 are one of the "great" things about Logos that not that many other programs have. However, I know of few people who want to read their bible at their computer so not making this a drop everything priority and get it done before the first of the year was a big mistake in strategy. Few people are going to switch their Bible reading plan strategy midstream and many believers choose a read in a year strategy. Also many of them start these at the first of the year.

If I were in charge - I'm sure most are glad I'm not -  I would have instructed developers to do everything in their power to make this work by Christmas or New Years at the latest and I would have pulled every developer I needed to make that happen. You've missed a huge opportunity. You've also frustrated many of of your user base.

I'll get over it and I'm not blowing smoke out of my ears over it. I was just assuming you'd put that kind of priority on it before Jan 1 and I'd get to go back to Logos as my Bible reading tool. Alas, I cannot. Since the Bible app from Lifechurch has a bible reading plan built in exactly like the one I want to use, I'm going with it again for 2014.

I said you weren't really saying anything because the post (not the discussion) you were linking to really doesn't say much of anything except - it doesn't work. The original post on this discussion knew it doesn't work.

  • Kevin,

Thank you for posting and attempting to help some of us. This issue is still not fixed. Someone replied to my original post but nothing has been done.

We will see how long this takes.

Reading Plan sync worked just as it did before with Logos 5, it's just that new code has not yet been written to enable Logos 6 custom reading plans to sync to mobile devices.  We are fully aware of the importance of this issue and a fix will be implemented.

In the mean time, any reading plans you would have previously created in Logos 5 will *still work* as they did before.

I've been reading through the threads about reading plan sync issues.  I had created several reading plans last fall before upgrading.  I've just finished all but one of those so I went in to create the next several plans.  Knowing the problem with the custom plans I set them up like I had before in Logos 5 with the middle of the three options.  These new plans are not sowing up on my IOS devices but the one remaining from before the upgrade is still there.  The threads seem to indicate the problem is only with custom reading plans, but I'm finding the same problem with the old plans as well.

Hi John - and welcome to the forums.

Exactly how are you setting up the plans?

As well as not currently supporting custom plans, the app doesn't support plans split on chapter /pericope boundaries which is a new capability in Logos 6 for Bibles in the middle option.

What version of the app are you running? What version of iOS? When did you do a fresh install of the app last?

iOS 8.1.3 app version 4.4.2 (4.4.22503) I just reinstalled the app yesterday thinking that was the problem, but it still doesn't sync.  Thanks

it would probably be best to create a new thread and provide as much detail as possible. Screen shots of the plan in L6 would help. Do you see the reading plan in your mobile documents?

Please read Graham's previous post to make sure your reading plans are not divided by chapter or pericope: "the app doesn't support plans split on chapter /pericope boundaries which is a new capability in Logos 6 for Bibles in the middle option."

Kevin, thanks for the info.  I had set them up as default but had noticed the new options and clicked through them as I was setting them up.  It must have picked that up because when I deleted them and reset them up not touching the default setting they synced right up.  Thanks again everyone for the help.  Looking forward to the app supporting all of the reading plan options. ~ John
