Yes it is working but still is very slow on the indexing function and I don't have one of these monster libraries that I've seen others report...

Hello Bradley what are the installation steps. My computer has indexed all 1900 plus files. Took over 12 hours. Some files index very quickly others may take an hour. After the number goes to 1 and then finishes, it is saying that it is indexing my library. At this point I shut down the computer. Now it has to index all over again.6278.Logos4Indexer.log

Mine is doing what Lynden's is doing as well. I have just paused the indexing since this will be the third time it has indexed. I can use pretty much everything in my library though when it is indexing it is slower than molasses in January in North Dakota!
I am running Windows SP 2002 SP3 with a Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz and 512 RAM.

Indexing complete, finally! Now should I add the .xml file back to test again??? Hmmm!

Well restored the .xml files and no problems at all. No reindexing and timelines are viewable! At least there is a workaround for those of us who indexer crashes from .xml files...

We want to collect some more detailed information from your system. Please place the attached "Logos4Indexer.NLog.config" file in your "My Documents\Libronix Log Files" folder (the same folder where the Logos4Indexer.log file is currently located). Re-run the program, then post your Logos4Indexer.log file for diagnosis.
Thank you for getting back to me Bradley, I appreciate it. I had a party last night, and church this morning and just found your post (i sure miss not having this in newsgroup format, would be so much easier to work with than these forums) up on the posts, but its Father's day here in Australia today so its pretty much family time today, maybe later this afternoon/ early evening I might be able to get back into this proper and report on how things are progressing.

I'll try to standardise our official position for Windows XP that SP3 is the minimum requirement. (It's just confusing to mention IE or various hotfixes.)

Logos 4 Indexing keeps crashing. I have oodles of disk space.
1. Do I have to be connected to the internet while the Indexing occurs.
2. The tray icon used to give me a % downloading. The last number I saw was 64%.
3. Now the blue tray icon says ... "preparing your library... stage 1 of 3". Then crashes.
I am impatient.

I am also having difficulty with indexing. It stops and then the program will work except with the books being indexed. I have Vista, SP2 NVidia Graphic ....

No problem Bradley, I was just getting ready to send some logs to you and almost missed your post as I was going to go back to your orginal post to reply but came to the end of the list first just to see what experiences others had been having (newsgroups would be so much easier to work with in this situation and no danger of missing a post like I came close to doing here..). I will download the new file and give it another whirl.

Thanks, Andrew for getting back to me so quickly. Unfortunately, it still doesn't look like there's quite enough information in the log files to identify which particular file is causing the problem. We'd really like to find out which one it is, so we can process it here, find out why it's causing problems, and fix the problem for everyone. We'll add even more logging in Beta 2 to help track this issue.
In the meantime, other people have reported problems with LSF and third-party resources. Here's a workaround that may work. Open your LDLS3 Resources folder (usually C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Resources, but if you've customised that setting, repeat this for every folder in your Resource Paths lists) and move the following files to a separate folder that is not in your discovery paths (nor a subfolder of a discovery path):
- *.lsf, *.lix
- e4_*.lbxlls
- anything older than February 2006 (sort by Date in Details view to find these easily)
Hopefully that should still leave you with hundreds of resources to test Logos 4 with.
You can now start Logos 4, and it should have a better chance of making it through the library preparation process. When that's done (and the main Logos 4 window opens) you can move the files back to their original folders, so that LDLS3 can still find them.

Thanks Bradley, I do appreciate you are stretched in every direction at the moment. Additionally what about media files. Having been a long time use many products I have purchased over the years have audio and video compenents which sit under the logos resource directory. Do these need to be moved ?

Bob, I indicated yesterday that I have virtually no C: space and that this will not change. Since I have not heard anything from you or your team concerning the option to allow us to chose the install drive, it leaves me in a quandry. Even now, on my vista 64 bit machine, I am not crashing however the indexing has gone down to 0 twice... yet at this moment the blue V4 icon is missing in my system tray but the program is telling me that it is still indexing. I am not able to help you all if we don't have some communication on this. Is custom installation to be allowed in Beta 2? when would beta 2 be out, about 2 weeks like we had in Libronix 1 alpha and beta ? should I rename Drive c to drive x and then rename a new empty drive to Drive C and then reinstall V4? If I this would/should work, what would need to be done with the current version of the beta... just unistall it? Clean the registry? I need some direction on this please. Since this is the holiday it gives me some extra time to work this out before I get back to chuch time on Tuesday.

Bob did mention somewhere that in future releases we will be able to store and read stuff in different locations. Right now I am in a similar boat as you. All my books are on my Mac drive and I don't have the space to put them in two places (Mac and under VMWare). So I am working with a limited books set until that time. Kind of difficult to really test it hard, but I guess we have no choice.

Ok Bradley, just to update you, I have done as you suggested but wanted to work through it methodically instead of just moving the files all at once so I would know what resources I am taking off-line and generated Bibliography Reports in 3.0 of those resources. There was 43 resources in LLS2.0 (*.lsf, *.lix) format that are now offline and in terms of the e4 and other lbxlss resources dated prior to Feb 2006 there was a total of 1278 resources that were take off-line.. This lot included some volumes of WBC and some resources I only purchased within the last month, so I am going to now have to set up a virtual machine and install 3 on that so I can continue to use these resources, at least for now, particularly the ones I have just purchased and was working through. It also included all 3.0 help files in the offline folder as I didn't see any point in having them indexed at this point .
So far it hasn't crashed and I can access resources in my library... logos system tray icon indicates there are 4,322 resources remaining to be indexed. It has been stuck on this count for some time now. The application is very sluggish at the moment due to the indexing so I am looking at help files at the moment to get familar with some of the new terminology. I should add I also did manage to get the second set of resources to download successfully finally. Its just wait and see for now.

You do realise that you can pause indexing for a while if you want to something else on your computer and it's acting sluggish?

Thanks Alex, I had noticed that, it nots so much my computer being sluggish, just Logos 4 itself due to the indexing. It seems though there is only a pause for four hours option, it would be good if there were additonal time options say 1 hour and 2 hour as well as the four hours. That said I do relaise you can also manually resume the indexing so not a major one in light of other things, more one of those nice to have things that maybe could come later...

Bradley, Indexing has finally completed......what next in terms of the almost 1300 lbxlls resources you indicated to leave out in this round ... what if I wanted to bring some over, how would I go about this in terms of getting them indexed would the indexing process re-index everything or only the new files it 'discovers' ?

Hi Andrew,
Glad to hear you're up and running (albeit missing 1000+ resources). I've added more logging to the program to help diagnose your problem (when Beta 2 is released); although with the volume of files you're reporting, it seems like we should try to come up with an easier way to identify the problematic resources all at once, rather than waiting for the program to crash and then checking what it was doing at the time. Our beta schedule is pretty tight, but we'll see what we can do. Once we do identify the resources, we may need to get copies of them from you (if we can't find them on the network here; we don't have every version of every resource archived). Would emailing them work for you, or would some kind of FTP upload folder be easier?
We don't have an easy way in Beta 1 to add a specific folder of resources; again, a specialised testing tool for you to run might make this easier. We'll discuss what the best way to proceed will be and hopefully get back to you by Beta 2.

Only expectation I would have on getting all issues sorted would be before final product release. I have created bibliography reports in PDF format (one for LL2.0 resources and one for LBX resources) of the resources I left out per your earlier instructions. The LBX report is 50 pages long and 23MB in size so don't want to attach it here. If you need to look at these at some point I can e-mail them, just let me know to which address. Whether or not e-mailing files will work will depend on number and amount of data. I am hoping the problem would be with only a limited number of resources,small in size, if not we may need to consider some sort of FTP upload at that point.
I'll await further instruction from you.

There should be a blue icon on the lower right of your screen. It should tell you what Logos4 is doing and give you the option to pause indexing for up to 4 hours. When updating and indexing are finished the blue icon will disappear.

I knew it had finished because
- My CPU stopped running at 100%
- The Indexing Library message disappeared from the Search Screen in the Program

Hi Stephen, I'm unsure if you posted this somewhere else but if you can post your log files it would be great. I think there already is a thread on the indexer crashing specifically, if not you can go ahead and post here, we are working on a hierarchy for organization and it'll be ready real soon!

My computer does not crash and all of my books are generally present in my library; however, Logos 4 will not stop indexing. When it finishes, it starts all over again. I have no log files, I have plenty of disk space. This has been going on since last Friday. No one has yet said anything about this being a problem except for me that I am aware of. Is there any way I can get Logos 4 to quit indexing other than just pausing it every 4 hours?
