Can anyone tell me whether I can install my Logos 4 software so that the Logos resources reside on my online Dropbox account?
No, resources have to be on the local disk.
Hi Walt - and welcome to the forums
Todd has answered your question. But why is this something you want to do?
If we understood that we might be able to offer alternatives.
Graham
Why Logos 4 rather than Logos 5?
As you state it the answer is "No"! In practice you should be aware that Dropbox sync will interfere with Logos access and will cause it to crash, and upload speeds are SLOW. There are more reliable means to backup Logos resources if that was your intent.

And if your intent was to be able to share resources between different machines of yours(*), there are other ways to do that too. See https://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers
(*) Note that you can't share resources between different users; both because it's not allowed in the EULA, and because even if a friend had copies of those resource files the licenses would not be unlocked for him unless he'd bought them on his Logos account.
Thanks for the various people who have responded.I answered one of the responses but don't see it here - I must have done it as an email instead of here in the forum.
In terms of what my intent with this question this is what I said:"I'm going to need to use it [Logos 4] on my laptop and the drive there has limited capacity. Do I'm looking for other options. If love to hear suggestions (other than buying a new laptop!!)... "I'm actually going to be traveling for a good number of months and so want to be able to use Logos on my laptop, despite it's limited drive capacity (it's a SSD but an early one and not of great size).
I'm not trying to share between different machines. Someone asked why not use Logos 6, I think. Right now I'm not in a position to upgrade - so I'm looking for a solution with Logos 4.
One thought I had was to install Logos 4 on my laptop but have the resources reside on an external, portable drive instead of drive c: Is that possible and if so, how?
Thanks again for everyone's help. Much appreciated.
The Logos executable and resources have to be on the same drive. I think it is possible to have that be an external drive, but you will experience very slow performance.
You didn't mention whether you're using Windows or Mac. There is a way in Windows that you can create what's called a symbolic link to cause the computer to treat files that are in a folder on an external drive is if they were actually on your hard disk. You might be able to move your Resources folder to an external drive (after installing Logos, but before it downloads all the resources) and then recreate it instead as a symbolic link to that folder on the external drive so that Logos finds the resources there. I wouldn't vouch for the stability of your installation if you try this. I've had problems using symbolic links before (I tried moving my Documents folder to a second hard disk since my system disk, which was an SSD, was too small, but various programs didn't work right when I did that). Had to give up and get a larger disk.

Thanks very much, Rosie. Sounds like you've been down this road before. Wish it were more encouraging, however... [:(]
I'm using Windows 7. Upgrading to a larger SSD appears, from what I've read, to be a daunting task as the manufacturer used proprietary hardware connections.
I actually had Logos installed on the laptop once, but it filled the disk to the point that the entire system operation was significant slowed - to the point of unusability. I've since had to reformat and reinstalled Windows etc. Hesitant to go down that road again...

If he's short on disk space, upgrading to Logos 5 doesn't sound like it's likely to make matters any better.
It is possible, but very technical. Further, you would need the ResourceManager folder on the portable drive due to the way Logos does its downloads e.g. if only the Resources folder is on the portable drive a 5 GB update would initially download to the laptop drive and there would be problems with insufficient free space. If the ResourceManager folder is on the portable drive the update will download onto that drive instead.
You have to be sure you can install Logos to the laptop's drive using a Custom installation to prevent resources downloading automatically e.g. my 21.5 GB installation has 16.9 GB in ResourceManager, so your laptop drive needs space for at least 4.5 GB, and the Logos installer will have to be satisfied with the amount of free space + you probably need even more to avoid performance problems.
The method for moving the ResourceManager folder to the portable drive is described in this wiki.
The only guarantee I offer is that you can install Logos completely to the portable drive and suffer from poor performance!
Still trying to consider all of my options. Thanks to each for your helpful responses.
For various reasons one of my options may include a possible 'Crossgrade' to Logos 6. From what can tell that basically means I would get the user interface of L6 but could still use the resources I have of L4 - right?
In the wiki regarding upgrade or crossgrade I noticed this statement:"Finally, you can choose to wait for the free Logos 6 engine in February 2015 and use it with your resources" And somewhere the date Feb 2nd was mentioned. Now I'm really confused. Does that mean that as long as I've got L4 I could wait a couple of weeks and get the L6 interface, or what?
Obviously this doesn't resolve my limited SSD drive issue, but I would like to know if there is a cheap way to continue to use the resources I've already got with L6...
Thanks in advance...Walt
Correct - and with the crossgrade options you would get some of the extra capabilities provided in Logos 6 (the different crossgrade options provide different capabilities). For details on variants see https://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade_to_Logos_6$3f and https://www.logos.com/compare/Logos%20Crossgrade
Does that mean that as long as I've got L4 I could wait a couple of weeks and get the L6 interface, or what?
That is also correct - but with the free engine you don't get to use some of the new capabilities but you do retain access to your resources.
Faithlife summarise these options at https://www.logos.com/ways-to-move-to-Logos-6
Thanks Graham - those links confirm my thinking. No matter what I do it looks like the free L6 core would be a no brainer.
Practical forum question. How would I get the formatted/shaded quotes of other posts in my responses? [8-|]

You basically select (using your mouse) the portion of text you want to include and click the "Quote" button

Great! Not sure how I missed that. Thanks.Walt
