Teach the Text: Logos vs Hardcover books

I got this kind reply (edited here) from a salesperson for Teach the Text Series

Dear (Sir):

Thank you for your email. If you are signed up for the Teach the Text continuity program (where you get a new volume every 2 months) we are not able to change the order that the books are sent out. We are alternating New Testament and Old Testament volumes and they need to all keep the same order so we can keep track of where everyone is at.

There are 37 volumes scheduled in the program and with the discounted rate of 40% off the retail cost you are looking at a total overall cost of between $611.80 to $815.80 (Depending on the retail prices of the books) +shipping.

Fellow Logos-ians and FaithLife Users, I keep wondering if I would be better served by buying the Logos versions or if it might be cheaper and better to have the actual hardcopies. Anyone else got an answer on this one?

Would you prefer to have the whole set on/in Logos or discounted hardcopies on your shelf in your office to pull from and use often - or perhaps even to loan to someone teaching a particular text at your church?

You bring up a good point about being able to loan something to someone else.

Regarding my own use, as much as I love browsing my Logos library just to look for something to read when I've got some down time, the experience of having a book or a set of books on the shelf is somehow different. Whether the difference is an advantage or a disadvantage depends a lot on the book itself as well as the individual (their work habits, objectives, available physical bookshelf space). However, when I have serious study of lesson preparation to do, it's all in Logos. Even if I don't use any of the advanced features, it's just easier for me.

In my experience, I've never had great success encouraging lay people to get an electronic theological library started, possibly because of the learning curve required to use one well. (My seminary students typically already had one.) Having physical books requires a very steep learning curve, but that's usually covered in the schools! And so I've loaned out many books in my past and I can see the advantages.

Wouldn't it be great if we could loan a book in our Logos library, which would disable our ability to use it until the user "returned" it?

I also worry about the moral, legal and ethical components of loaning anything to anyone...media wise anyway.
I rarely do. In fact, I bought the 1st and 2nd Samuel books and gave one away. I am buying it again for myself.

....what I really wanted to know though is - is it cheaper and wiser to get the Logos books instead? I am a Seminarian and need to watch my funds.

I always get electronic versions of stuff. Had that option been available early in my career, I would still have the hundreds of volumes lost due to water damage a few years ago. This assumes, of course, that Faithlife will be viable well into the future.

Furthermore, the secondary costs associated with home office space, bookselves, moving, etc. are minimized with electronic editions.

I haven't bought a new physical book in a long time (not counting a few chess books received as gifts). It would be cool if I could see Logos resources at used book sales. [:)]

Does anyone know or want to venture a guess what this whole set will cost once it gets released in Logos?

Should I buy the individual packs or wait until the end?

Does anyone else think this set is way over priced? over $500 for an incomplete set. I was able to purchase some print volumes for under $10 each. Hoping they come down in price or include in a set!!
