Can Logos do this feature in Accordance?

Hello everyone, in seminary classes, I have a few professors that use Accordance. They open the OT Hebrew or the NT Greek and an English translation side by side. When they run their cursor over a word it highlights in blue over both related words. All they have open is an NA28 and an ESV. Can I do this in Logos? I'm sure it can be done but don't know how to.

I see it can be done in the exegetical guide, but can I do this with having an English and then a Greek/Hebrew bible open? (without the exegetical guide?) I do have the link set to A.

Does anyone have an answer?

Sure, it's called Sympathetic Highlighting - it presupposes a RI for the English bible and you'll find it under the Visual Filters Menu.

This is one of my favorite features of Logos. It is called Sympathetic Highlighting.

Here is how you turn sympathetic highlighting on:

Open and English Bible and a Greek or Hebrew Bible.
[optional] Put both Bibles in the same Link Set. Click on the Panel menu for a Bible and select the big A to put it in Link Set A. This allows you to scroll through one Bible and see the same passage in the other Bible.
Click on the Visual Filter icon at the top of the Bible (it looks like 3 rings in Logos 4-5 and 3 small balls in Logos 6). Check the Sympathetic Highlighting option. Do this for both Bibles.

Now, when you select a word or phrase in the Bible in one language it will be highlighted in the other Bible.

You can do this with any English Bible that has reverse interlinear tagging, such as NASB, ESV, NRSV, NIV, NLT, KJV and NKJV. You can also do this with some other language translations, such as some Spanish Bibles. I sometimes use the feature with a Spanish Bible and an English Bible open. Since both are tagged with Greek and Hebrew information, I can highlight a phrase in Spanish and see how it was translated in the English Bible.

You need to enable it first in the original language window by clicking on the three dotted button (highlighted yellow) and then make sure that "sympathetic highlighting is on".

Then when you highlight an English word (in the example below, "angel" on the right) the corresponding original language word will be highlighted (as you can see in the left window below):

Hmm, I just tried it and it does not work like I thought. It only works if I click and highlight the word. However, in Accordance, they just run the cursor over the word and it automatically does this. (Similar to when you run the cursor over a Hebrew text and it parses the word automatically) Can logos do this without me having to manually click the word and dragging the cursor over the word to highlight it? I just want to run my cursor over the word and make this happen. Let me know.

No it cannot. Logos is set to show you the parsing and other information when you hover over a word (which you see in the small pop-up at the bottom of your English Bible panel).

Would using a two line in-place Interlinear accomplish what you want? The Greek text would then show up (in the Reverse Interlinear order) immediately below the English text.

In Logos, there is a different usage for hovering over the text. You can do that when using the information pane and it will display lexical and parsing information. The information pane has to be set to hover (the other option is clicking on words).

Yes! That is what I have been arguing for. I'm OK if I have to go into a "mode" to make that work, but when I need it to work that way, I really need it to work that way.

What about the Information tool? It can be set to hover. Combined with sympathethic highlighting for multiple-word strings it should deliver solid functionality.

My professor today had Accordance up on the overhead as usual. What I noticed was his Greek on the one side and his ESV on the other. On the bottom was a pane about the length of the screen (from right to left) and about less than a quarter in the space of his screen. He hovers over his Greek word and the ESV follows highlighted in blue. However, on the bottom of the screen, that other pane was very similar to the Info tool, well almost. It just showed the parsing but didn't give half the information that Logos information tool would.

I wonder of Accordance does the automatic highlighting by hovering but then only parses on the bottom of the screen? It does not parse the word in a pop up like Logos. (A feature I really love in Logos) However, I'm glad to hear there are others like me that would like to see this highlighting feature integrated into Logos 6 update, while not sacrificing the parsing pop up at the bottom of the screen.

My question is, can it be done? I would hate to sacrifice the parsing bar at the bottom of the screen. My next question is, Logos will you all do this for us? Give us the highlighting in the Hebrew/Greek texts simultaneously with our preferred bible, English, Spanish, etc., while maintaining the parsing bar below? That would be outstanding! Not to say Logos is not already that, but would take it up another notch.

By the way, thank you all at Logos for all your innovative hard work into the best biblical software...

Ok, so I am reviving this old thread for the reason that I wish to give a thank you to Logos for hearing the many that were asking for this to happen. I am a Logos 6 user and decided to try the free month of Logos Now. Well, I have discovered Logos has answer the call. They call it Multiview Resources. What this does is allows us to have multiple bibles or commentaries in a single pane or as one resource.

So now I can do what I see my professors do in Accordance. I can have my ESV open and an original text bible open side by side. I don't have to link them together as they automatically scroll side by side. I love that. Next, I can click on the visual filter icon and enable sympathetic highlighting as usual but now instead of a "click" only option when highlighting, I am offered "Hover or Click" which is what I have been wanting. I enable hover, so when I scroll my cursor over the word in the ESV or an NA28, it highlights the corresponding word. I love it! The simplest things make such a difference.

Before if you wanted to do this you had to open the exegetical guide, in the word by word section, and then you could hover over a word. Now I don't have to do this. The two bibles side by side looks clean side by side and scrolls seamlessly. Thank you Logos for listening to us. So, now I have a problem, I have been sucked into the Logos Now era and am in my free month offering, but I love this so much that I'm not sure I'm willing to let it go to wait for Logos 7. How does Lays potato chips say it, you can't eat just one. I can't just use this for one month. I love this feature.

Logos has added an icon of 3 parallel lines, next to the inline search icon, you click this on and add what you want.
