find Greek word translated as ___ in English

Hi,

How do I find all occurrences of δε in Hebrews that are translated as something other than "but" in the English NAS95?

I have a search range for Hebrews. And I can find all occurrences in the NA27 of the lemma form in the letter and add the alternate NASB to show up in the search results. From there, I'm lost as to how to proceed.

I'd also like to have a count of how many times it's used in Greek and how many times it's translated as "but", how many times as "and", and how many times as "now", (or whatever other distinct English word).

For your second question, go to guides in the menu bar and select Bible Word Study. Type g:de and wait for the drop down to suggest the Greek lemma and select it and run the report. Under translation make sure the section is open and then notice the total number of hits in the chart at the upper right 1875. If you click on the translation ring the word "and" it will show the number of times the ESV (or selected Reverse interlinear) translated the Greek lemma de that way. You can see the number at the bottom left before the verse list. You can then select the other translated words. BTW, I am using L6 so the graphics are different.

I would just add to John's explanations that since translation in English obviously differs from translation to translation and can reflect interpretive decisions, you can run the search he suggested in All Bibles or Top Bibles to compare. Likewise, you can change the translation ring to different translations (you can even add translation rings) to compare across different English translations.

One more addition that may prove helpful is to click on the analysis view in the search window, sort by results and then collapse results to summary view:

The search should be lemma:δέ NOTEQUALS but, rather than lemma:δέ ANDNOT but.

NOTEQUALS specifies that 'but' should translate 'δέ', ANDNOT merely that they shouldn't be in the same verse. As consequence ANDNOT excludes verses where 'but' appears elsewhere in a verse (i.e. translating something other than δέ), such as Hebrews 3:18.

Not only with the ESV, but other versions as well.

"lemma:δέ NOTEQUALS but" does not work either.

"<Lemma = lbs/el/δέ> NOTEQUALS but" works just fine. I ran it on the ESV, then ran analysis, sorted by result, collapsed all, and confirmed that no result = but showed but many others did.

Still the same results here after I did a reindex.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong here, but I have all settings as shown on the picture.

I am doing a "Reindex Reverse Interlinear Explorer" now. Perhaps that helps.

This is very helpful, but after multiple clickings (both right and left) all over the screen I still don't see how to collapse the results for a count like you have done here. I am sure it is very obvious and simple, but I don't see it.

Ok. Solved for me. Had to switch from Analysis to Verses view and then when switching back I had the option to "Option Click" on the Results tab and it showed the grouping arrows. Thank you for your help. Sorry to hijack the thread.
