Well it looks like the 2015 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica is coming. In pre-pub $99.
I assume there would also be in one's Logos library? And it is mobile enabled.

Quick question - I read that updates will be relatively cheap. Is That compared to the pre-pub price or the MSLP?
Hi Floyd,
That's in comparison to the Pre-Pub price.
Sherri
Sherri,
How big is the file? Just wondering..
I love big files.

Being Noet and given the provided information I had presumed it might be the 11th edition 1911. But maybe not?
Yes, the 1911 edition is the one I want. Too bad so few others understand what the 11th edition was and is. It has numerous Bible-related articles. The reputation of the 1911 has caused it to be referred to for over a century. I'm pretty sure Logos offered it as a CP at one time, but it languished and was removed. Too bad. Probably more useful for Logos users than this 2015 edition will be...though I'm not knocking it. May get it myself.
...But I still want the 1911 ed.!!!

Definitely ! Has it been removed? I think Mike Barnes posted a link to it above.

It's still in CP

I'll be honest...I think Wikipedia is the most important thing the internet ever hosted. But great as it is, it is something of a shimmering phantom at times, by its very nature. Great for a quick and dirty info grab, not so great when you want to quote something, since the bit you quote might disappear tomorrow. Having something like the EBNE 2015 to refer to that is reasonably gelled in its consistency (pun intended) is valuable for that reason alone...plus, it's the Britannica.

Ah, great! Or maybe I should just say "good", since it is highly unlikely that it will ever see the light of Logos. I mean it when I say the 1911 is probably far more useful for a Logos user than the 2015 will be. That's not a knock on the 2015, but rather a tip of the hat to the 1911. Place your bid on it now. Let's try to get a bump at $50. If that won't get the job done, Bob can let us know.

I've been in at $100 since last July.

Agreed. The 1911 Edition is the best Britannica ever published. But why not bid $100 on each of them?
My bid has been $100 from the beginning...but I'm somewhat unconvinced that many others will do so. I'm hoping that more would be willing to bid $50. Getting it to peak at $50 will be the hard part, but I'm going to drop my bid from $100 to $50 and hope the $50 peak kicks in. Lower prices always attract more interest.
EDIT: I see that $50 isn't an option, so I bid $60. I also fear that that price is too low, but it isn't going anywhere at $100 so it won't hurt to try. If you are unfamiliar or uncertain, trust George, ST, & me and bid $60. We don't always agree, but we agree on this. The articles in the 1911 will be worth every penny of $60.
Lowering your bid won't change anything regarding where it peaks unless it peaks above you.
-The EBNE also includes more than 25,000 high-resolution videos and images that are all fully searchable and accessible--even when you’re not connected to the Internet. While I am still not sure if I'll benefit from the print content of the EBNE, I am interested in a resource that would provide this vast a number of images and videos for under $100. That alone might make this a worth-while purchase.

Hi Mark. I just wanted to say I absolutely agree. Those videos and images were about 95% of the reason I decided to purchase it.
Hello George, Yep, I've got all those already :-) Ive got a print edition of the Great Books that I'm readone through and would love to have them all digitally. You do realize that you can't display them in your bookcases, don't you?

Sure you can. Take screenshots of your Library in Cover View, print them out, and tape them up on the faces of your bookcases. [;)]
Yes, the Great Books of the Western World would be a great addition to the collection.
Who knows they might give us a full version as an update at a lower price later on down the road.
That is what I am hoping for. Of course, I wouldn't expect Faithlife to comment on that at this juncture. That possibility would probably hinge on how well the EBNE does now.
I say this with "all due respect", but I find most Logos products on the "pricey" side. Therefore, I am curious what the actual "small fee" will be for the updates. With that said, the pre-pub price seems like a good enough deal for me to at least try it for the 30 days...as others have stated.
Steve
Yesterday after thinking about the EBNE (Encyclopedia Britannica) one reason for purchasing it would be so that i might have access to it in the future. Over the past 20 years i have bought at least 2 Encyclopedias for my PCs. Over the years these have stopped working with my newer PCs as Windows has evolved. The oldest was written for 16-bit OS and cannot be loaded. The other has similar issues with my current Windows 8 PC. Another down side was that they required me to insert various DVDs as i changed viewing different articles. But with EBNE coming out in Logos compatible book form. This book form should alleviate this problem as Logos will in the future will continue to upgrade its app to work with newer OS and computer technology. So the EBNE book will work unlike the older purchased Encyclopedias. Plus i will not need to change DVDs as i view articles in the EBNE. Edit: another advantage to having the EBNE over other Encyclopedias (purchased for PCs) is that it will be available on my other devices (tablet, phones, etc).

Great points Steve. Thanks for articulating them. I'm still not decided but this helps.
I react to the Encyclopedia Brittanica offer with both applause for the creation of a Logos-empowered version of such a consequential source of information and disappointment that the product is in fact abridged. Further, I am troubled by the fact that the marketing surrounding the offer made so little effort to make the abridgement clear.
Sherri, while I respect your good intentions in this thread, I encourage you to revisit some of your exchanges with posters. I think you will find that at times your responses were significantly and unnecessarily incomplete. I believe it took you far too many posts to` report the new resource's scope and limitations.
Those reservations expressed, I may still purchase the resource since I think $99 is a great value for Britannica in almost manner and size of delivery.

Wouldn't be easier just to tape a message to your bookcase that says "for my library I have Logos" [:D]
Hey Greg,
I'm just going to quickly jump in here to say that we're definitely working on the Great Books from Britannica. I can't make any promises, but getting the Great Books and Norton Critical Editions are my two top priorities this year (in terms of content acquisition).
Wait, I am getting confused. Will 2015 edition have all those 32 books of 1911 edition? If I purchase 2015 edition, would it be beneficial to purchase 1911 as well?
Absolutely ! The 2015 edition will not have the 32 books of the 1911 edition.
Hi Mike,
It's a little too soon to tell. The EBNE is still in production, meaning we still need to go in and tag dates, authors, media, etc. and we won't know the file size until it's closer to shipping. Once we have the file size nailed down, we'll let you know!

Ben, I am particularly excited about getting Norton editions in Noet. Is there any push to get the full Oxford English Dictionary?

the OED is VERY expensive... Have you ever looked up subscriptions? [:s]
Is there any push to get the full Oxford English Dictionary?
There used to be a push to get OED in Logos but it felt like we were pushing a fully loaded dump truck uphill.

I'll push it. The OED is my Logos holy grail.

The Holy Grail? Don't you know that Joseph of Arimathea took that to Brittain and it is at Glastonbury (or so it has been said). [;)]

George, please. If it were in Britain (one 't' not two, please) it would have been taken there by an African swallow and King Arthur would have found it during the Quest for the Holy Grail. As one who watched that quest unfold many times I can assure you he did not find it in Britain.

No, No, NO...
Indiana Jones found it in the desert in a cave and then left it there. Man, people just don't know history anymore
Pushing the dump truck up Glastonbury Tor seems doable.

You don't think that I seriously believe that, do you?

It is very expensive, but the Noet target audience would certainly see the benefit. It would be no worse than Logos users spending a small fortune on BDAG, HALOT, or some expensive commentary set.
True, but they have a new medium (Noet) that would make this a necessity, so I would expect that the push for it would be ramped up.
Wow, 7 pages, and when it comes to buying, I just have to say... I still have no idea. Getting a full encyclopedia for $100 is a good idea, but I'm not sure if the product offered here is the product I think I need. Getting it at full price is out of course.
I guess with the question mark in my mind, I'll just have to pass. If I had more time to decide, I might be convinced to do it. But right now, i just don't want to take the chance on investing in something that isn't what I need.
Some certainly would... (I would love to have it!)... but it would be too rich for my blood. FWIW - an "annual" subscription in the US is $295. That isn't for an ongoing license... it's only for access to the dictionary online for one year. Would users be willing to pay $500 (add Logos costs) to RENT the OED for a year? Some would, yes.
Here is something working against the OED in NOET. Who is the primary audience for NOET? I assume students / faculty members, right? Many institutions of higher learning have access to the OED provided via their library.
If you are still in doubt place your bid soon. Originally the site said that the sale only would last 3 days (until the 19th). We are living in a period of grace now. Place your order soon or you may be disappointed.
Looks like the great deal has now expired. The price is at $199 and the progress is almost there. Will be interesting to see how long it takes at the new price to get to completion.
Actually, by taking away a $100 bid and bidding lower, the $100 price must decrease. Yes, a bid for $100 is a bid for $50, but keeping a bid for $100 will never create a peak at $50.
It will if others bid at $50 since you would also be bidding for $50.
Yes it is up to $199 now. I guess my post early this morning was just before the cut-off time.
That's awesome to hear! Thanks for letting me know, and definitely keep us updated!
Two of my big ones that I'd love to have in Logos are the Great Books and the Cambridge Histories. Keeping fingers crossed!
Hey after 10 years using the Noet Edition of EB care to share latest review? By the way EB 32 volumes is already on a pre-pub. I would appreciate if you guys can give the latest updates.
