Devotionals on Home Page

When I prioritized several calendar devotionals in my library, then checked devotional in the Home Page settings wheel, I get 5 devotionals I didn't prioritize, plus all my blogs (also checked) no longer show on the Home Page.

Please clarify

When I exited Logos and immediately returned, the blogs showed up. Seems when I use Logos a lot, the resources get low, and things don't always work well. Is this a problem for Win7?

Anyway, why do I have 5 devotionals on the Home Page? I just need one.

I am afraid that devotionals is an all or nothing setting at the moment.

You might work round this by having them turned off on the home page but having one on the Shortcut Bar

If you want one on the home page, for now the only way to force that is to hide all the ones you're not interested in.

However, if you have less than the magic number specified, Logos will nicely start giving you their top choice of devotionals ... which you would also have to hide.

That's what I said (at least that's what I meant, though I wasn't clear enough): hide ALL the devotionals you own except for the one you're interested in having on your home page.

Why do none of my calendar devotionals show up on the home page? The only ones that show are devotionals that I prioritized way down the list.

Is there a difference between calendar devotionals and devotionals? Also, in the library, when I asked for all devotionals, I got some that are not even listed as devotionals. Why is this?

Open your library. Click on "type" in the header to sort by type. Calendary devotional are those books that appear as type "calendar devotionals" - only these books will appear on the home page when prioritized.

Is there a difference between calendar devotionals and devotionals?

MJ probably showed you what you need to know for your original issue, but I thought I would tackle this question.

As its name implies, a "calendar devotional" is a devotional with readings for each day of the year (i.e. "January 1st" etc.). Many/Most devotionals are NOT calendar devotionals... In Logos, however, there is a "type" of resource called a "Calendar Devotional". You may have a resource which IS a "calendar devotional" but isnt the type:Calendar Devotional. In most cases those will be "Vyrso Edition" resources. So what is the difference?

Vyrso resources are "bare bones" resources which are auto converted from the publisher ePub files. When you have a "Vyrso Edition" Calendar Devotional, Faithlife hasn't hand tagged each entry with the proper tagging for the calendar devotional feature to work... which means when you open the resource on September 23rd, it won't open to "September 23rd," it will open where you left off when you used the devotional last. ALL Vyrso resources are tagged as edition:eBook.

When I click my library, I don't have a "type" column. I also don't have a small pointer in library like yours does. I'm using Logos 6 .0b SR-3

Try right-clicking on the column headings and ensure that "Type" is selected

And you can drag columns around so they are in the order you wish

I also don't have a small pointer in library like yours does

This will appear when you sort / group by that column

Thanks on checking the "type". STill, I've prioritized the calendar devotionals, but 4 that I don't have prioritized are all that show up on the Home Page.

How many have you prioritize? Logos will display 4 or 5 even if you haven't prioritized that many. And did your home page refresh. F5 will force it to. If that doesn't work, post a screenshot of your priority list.

I have 18 listed; and prioritized about 10. They are all calendar devotionals by Ellen White. The ones on the Home Page are not even prioritized.

I refreshed the home page, but still get the 4 other devotionals.

How do I get a screenshot to this post?

The ones that are showing are ones I recognize as being prioritized by Logos - They showed until I prioritized enough to push them down. I wonder if this is actually related to the bug of the individual who was having trouble getting the blogs to show? I.E.is there some high level bug in building the home page that bypasses chunks of selection processing. I'm going to turn this into a bug report.

Michael--in order for a devotional to appear on the home page it needs to follow a Month/Day format (i.e January 1st, February 24th, March 10th, etc.).

Have you tried setting up a reading plan? Reflecting Christ would work very well as a one-year reading plan.

Michael, I'm afraid we might be misunderstanding each other. If anything the resource type is misleading since all the devotions in your screenshot (with the exception of those that appear on the home page) are missing the calendar component.

Here is a screen shot from The Upward Look. Notice the chapter number instead of a date. In order for a devotional to appear on the home page it requires a date.

Compare that with From this Verse, which does appear on the home page as a devotional:

I see the EGW devotionals are typed calendar devotional, but not dated daily as such, so Logos does not recognize them as such for the Home Page.

I've asked the SDA forum if this might be fixed in the upcoming EGW Lifeworks resource.
