New: How to get the Verse of Day artwork as your wallpaper
A number of people have asked for simple ways of getting the Verse of the Day artwork as your wallpaper, so I created some Media RSS feeds with the VotD images in it. Together with free software, you can use this feed to keep your background wallpaper up to date.
First, here are the feeds:
- http://www.logosbiblesoftwaretraining.com/biblescreen-rss.php (all the VotD images, so your wallpaper will be chosen at random).
- http://www.logosbiblesoftwaretraining.com/biblescreen-rss-today.php (today's VotD image, so it should match what you see in Logos apps). You can add a timezone parameter, such as ?timezone=+4, or ?timezone=-6, if you like (although I'm not sure how VotD handles timezones). (currently broken, sorry)
Now, follow the instructions below, for Mac or Windows:
Mac
To use this feed on Mac, these instructions should work (I don't have a Mac to test, though), though you won't have all the options you have on the Windows version below. Perhaps Mac users know a better option?
Windows
To use this feed on Windows, download the free John's Background Switcher. Once it's installed, follow the steps below:
First, set the switching options to your preferences. Then remove any check marks from the Picture Sets section.
Second, click the Add button and choose RSS Photo Feed.
Then, just paste in the URL above, and click OK.
It will take several seconds to download the image (more if you're downloading multiple images), but your wallpaper should now update. You can have multiple images on the desktop, or just one.
If you want, click the More button and edit some of the advanced settings. Personally, I set Show picture info to off (on the General tab), and Save all full-sized downloaded pictures (on the Picture Sources tab). If you're displaying a photo montage, you may want to change the snapshot size on the Montages tab to at least 350px. If you want to browse the downloaded images, right-click on the Switcher icon in the taskbar and choose Cached Picture Browser.

Unfortunately, newer versions of iPhoto and OSX have broken the ability to do this using the instructions provided. I will see if I can figure out a solution... I am not well versed in RSS feeds though. I think alternate third party software will probably be needed... Of course, a new version of OSX will be released in a few weeks/months. Perhaps a new solution will be built in. [:)]

I noticed today that the RSS feed is no longer working. I was curious if anybody had any information or ideas as to if it's been moved or cancelled or related to the recent outages?

It's part of the ongoing outage.

Thanks David. I had kind of suspected so but I didn't see anything about it on any of the updates so I wasn't certain.
I appreciate your help.

It's back up now. Logos reported the Verse of the Day API coming back online at 9:13 PM PST, yesterday. My feed is cached, so it took a bit longer than that for it to start working again.

If you get the Mac solution going and want a tester, holler.

Hi Mark,
I have been enjoying having the verse of the day artwork on my background each day, but the feed seems to have stopped working, at least on my machine.
Any problems?!

Hi
Like you I have been enjoying the verse of the day artwork (thanks Mark!!!) but the only times that I have been aware if it failing is when there has been a problem with my local internet. I fact it has warned me of my internet briefly not working once or twice. It is working OK as I write.0 -

Who in the world ever has a chance to view their wallpaper? I generally have several programs running, any one of which would obscure the desktop.

There seems to be a problem with the single VOTD feed. The feed that contains all the images is still working OK. I'll take a look this evening if I have time.

That's why you have to buy a second (or third) monitor. [:P]

If you have several programs running, you would obviously benefit from having multiple screens [:)], which will also mean you'll see your wallpaper more often.

I don't think so. <alt-tab> works perfectly fine to switch between programs. Besides that, I don't have an extra monitor cluttering up my desktop. I also don't have the added expense of buying an extra monitor that I don't need—more money for resources.

Thanks, Mark.
The all-images feed does seem to be working, so I'll live with that for now!
Hope you're well.

Hi Mark - I'm using the RSS feed link that works. The problem is that it's only showing the Gen 1:27 verse and is not changing from day to day. I started using the new feed on 03/10/15 at around 13:00 EDT. Is the feed not working correctly? Thanks!
