I have https://www.logos.com/product/30541/classic-studies-on-st-patrick and would like to read one leading up to St. Patrick's Day. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to start? I was thinking of https://www.logos.com/product/38961/the-life-of-st-patrick-and-his-place-in-history based upon the book descriptions.
I started with "The Life of St. Patrick and His Place in History by J. B. Bury. It was an ok read. I found O’Loughlin, Thomas. St Patrick: The Man and His Works. London: Triangle, 1999 to be a better intro to the man and subject.

I used Saint Patrick: The Man and His Works by O'Loughlin to prepare for a class, and thought that it was excellent.

I really liked this one. The writings of St. Patrick are shot through and through with allusions and references to Scripture, and in Logos all the references are footnoted and linked to your Bible translations for preview (on a hover) or navigation (on a click). The first parts of the book do a good job of setting the stage for Patrick's writings:
Ch. 1 - The Enigma of Patrick
Ch. 2 - Patrick: Life and Times
Ch. 3 - Patrick's World
Chs. 4-7 are Intro to Patrick's Confessio, Patrick's Confessio, Intro to the Epistola, the Epistola
