Logging in
What is the purpose of "logging in" every time the software launches?

I used the my computer away from the internet today (as I often do).
Running the application without internet connection brings up another dialogue box asking me to confirm name / password or 'work offline'.
At a fairly superficial level, I could not see any difference between online/offline working. I have already disabled the newspaper at startup (a confusing layout cf the old home page and nothing new for those who follow the logos site). It would be nice if we could have a faster startup without the online check and offline option.
Obviously, at this point I would expect Logos to be gathering all sorts of usage data over the net and thus require online working ... but come the day of release if the default (or a options setting) for working permanently in the offline mode would be nice.

My question at the moment is why doesn't it log in correctly when you start the software...everytime I start it up, the box comes up saying it could not connect to Logos and then I have to click on a box to log in (or workoffline - but that is pointless at this stage since I'm still trying to get the software installed and setup correctly).
My question of the moment aside, I'm not really a big fan of working on-line, and would rather keep things offline ... so I have to agree that I would rather see things in the final release to have a default option of working offline.

Logging in enables many things, one of which is syncing. Your documents should be synced between computers when you log into a different machine. Give it a try if you have a second computer.Jacob Hantla said:I'm hoping the online option is going to allow syncing of notes/clipping/collections/etc between computers...

Andrew,
I had the same issue. It was due to my firewall app filtering traffic in and out. When I turn filtering off, then logon doesn't get stopped and dialogue box pop up. Apparently the allowed time for connection between v.4 and server is too short to allow the firewall to check it out before letting it through.
BTW, i am using Webroot Internet Security Essentials. I do have Logos Bible Software set up with Webroot and it can connect.

I have ΖοneAlarm, i have it set to allow traffic for Logos 4 Bible Software, Logos Bible Software 4 Indexer, Logos Bible Software 4 updater. It doesn't seem to be showing any other compnent that relates to Logos 4 that might be getting blocked. It has no problem connecting when I manuallly conect but the autoonnect on startup always fails.

I love the vagueness of "many things" [:)]
Cloud computing is not a viable reality for many in Africa (and I presume other parts of the world as well). I do hope v4 will be fully functional with only occasional (more less than often) access to the internet.
How much data trafic will be needed to sync documents etc between 2 computers?
Will it only be updates copied or full sync every time? (This is a question by a person with limited broadband )0 -
I havent tried this yet so if I get ahead of myself please forgive me
So where are our docs (for example) stored during this sync, because if you are holding/storing them even as a temporary measure, I want a opt-out option added, or a warning.. I would much rather have a working sync by USB stick option, at least then I have control over my files..
Never Deprive Anyone of Hope.. It Might Be ALL They Have

When Internet access is available, though, we use it to sync your data to "the cloud", allowing you future access to your own data via a web browser as well as the ability to keep multiple devices in sync.
We try to keep the sync data to a minimum, sending only what's changed.
It is possible to turn sync off, and to turn it on for short periods, to support scenarios where Internet access is expensive or occasional.0 -

Woo hoo! Thanks, Bob! I'm getting more excited the more I learn about this v.4 business (so long as I don't lose my highlighting & diagramming :-))

We've kept Africa (and everywhere else Logos is used!) in mind, and the application will work without Internet access. (You will need, at a minimum, email access on occasion to activate the product and get licenses.)

I am happy about the new trends you started with the Logos 4. If only we have also Czech Bibles in it, and it will be just perfect [:)]

hmmm, that's a tantalizing bit of information which reveals more of the plans regarding the cloud computing questions.Bob Pritchett said:When Internet access is available, though, we use it to sync your data to "the cloud", allowing you future access to your own data via a web browser as well as...
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Hmmm... Need to login at program launch...
Looking at the program's directory structure:
Logos4->Users
Logos4->Documents->random_string_corresponding_to_user
Logos4->Data->random_string_corresponding_to_user
Gearing up for multiple users on one computer??? [:)] That would be useful in a church setup with shared computers where licencing is otherwise complicated....

An issue that prevents logging on is the proxy setting.
I presume that it uses the internet explorer settings. There is no link to these settings on the log-in box, they are even buried quite deep within IE itself.
Is it possible to have an on/off button for the proxy settings, and to use a separate set of settings to IE? I use firefox with the QuickProxy plug-in to solve it with browsing. I use IE only for updating windows (MS seems to block other browsers).
Moving between different locations is tricky if the proxy needs to be changed each time.
Thanks.
