Could someone who loves and wants this book explain what is great about it and why any serious Logos user should want to have it in his or her library? I'd never heard of it.
A. Deismann was a scholar who argued that the New Testament was written in a vernacular Greek, that is, the language spoken by the common people. To that end, he investigated papryri, inscriptions, etc. to gain insight into the common usage of Greek Words. I am not familiar with this particular work, but I expect that it will be interesting and certainly worth $8.00 (or less).
Ok, I'm in.
OK, I've ordered it too.
Consider it done.
Are we all addicts encouraging each other to have another drink, or what? [;)]
In a nutshell, Deissmann with this book and his other one (Light from the Ancient East) essentially revolutionized NT Greek studies single handedly. Deismann is the reason that Thayer's lexicon became obsolete within just a couple years of its publication. Deismann is the reason Moulton & Milligan's lexicon Vocabulary of the Greek New Testament exists. I could go on, but I think you get the point.
By the way, I've been waiting for this book since 2007 -- nearly three years. It's about time.
Are we all addicts encouraging each other to have another drink, or what?
No...I can quit anytime I want...I've done it several times already.... [:D]
Heck, I just want to see what it is like to order something from Logos that is only 8 dollars.
I bought a book on CP a little over a year ago that passed production costs at $8 and wound up selling for only $3 by the Friday cutoff.
It now sells for $34.95.
The more people that buy at CP price, the lower the price gets.
Pretty soon we'll see the 12 steps on pre-pub
Not a bad idea, actually. I have a copy on my shelf. I'd put a bid on one.

Having been there, done that, I can tell you with assurance, that stopping is not the issue in addictions etc. Stopping is easy - not starting again is a major mountain to be attained.

Been there done that also...we are all sinners only saved by God's grace...
It's for the Lord's work. How can it possibly be bad? There, that relieved my feelings of guilt. Now, I'm cool. [H]
Ok. I'm in. For $8 why not.
OK, you got me too [:)]
It looks like it could drop to $7 before Fri with a few more orders
YES!!! I'm in too! What a great find for only 8 dollars and thanks for the original post letting us know it was available.
If one accepts that "the Greek of the NT was written inthe common language of the day", what is the ongoing reference value of thiswork?
Is it for accurate citation in historical research?
Is it for hermeneutical apologetics? Is "Holy Ghost" Greek still an ongoing viewto be debated?
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Good point. I for one got caught up in the frenzy just because people wanted help making it to the threshold to get this produced, and I figured $8 was cheap enough that I'd be willing to help out. I don't really need it in my library. I find myself buying a lot of stuff just because I can. Probably should consider a bit more seriously whether I really need them.

Actually, for 8 bucks I am willing to risk it because the subject matter appeals to an area of interest. Will I be using it for research or apologetics? Nope. Will I read it from cover to cover? Doubtful Will I skim it and read sections that interest me? You bet.
If anyone wants to take a look at the book ....it's up on google books...it looks interesting...

Rosie,
I hope my questions didn't come across as criticism, since some folks are looking forward to this book, I'm just wondering what the interest is. Obviously, having a historical milestone in one's library is valuable . . . [:)]
P.S. I enjoy the book descriptions you posted in other threads, such as Dictionary of Biblical Imagery.

Yes, I added those arrows...
I knew it was three because I'm a "locked-in-in-the-know-Logos-brotherhood" insider.....
Oh wait.... that's not it....oh yeah...I read it on another post by a Logos employee... [:D]
$8 Community Pricing ends at noon PST today.
Still looks like it might slip to only $7.

Now it's Twilight Zone time! The thread that the three above posts were part of has VANISHED!! [:O] [li] [:'(] Spooky!
Fwiw, adding on to a years-old conversation above...a few months back I actually was browsing my library and came to the above-mentioned book by Deissmann and asked myself that very same question--why did I get this?
Then, less than an hour later, I was doing a search, and abracadabra!, up popped Deissmann's book and it was loaded with goodies! So we can all rest easy knowing that our addiction obsession wisdom in purchasing Logos books "just because" can all work out in the end! [;)]
