Follow Me: The Way of Jesus according to the Gospel of Mark

"Father, Into Your Hands" is apparently restricted to Amazon only for the next 90 days, but after that, it should be available to other publishers. Luke Kammrath is a friend. I've read "Follow Me", and have used it in a congregational setting. It provides a radical and political interpretation of Jesus' call to discipleship in Mark's gospel, and it has a great question and answer format which can be used within bible studies, reducing preparation time considerably.

Jesus radical, huh? I was under the impression he advocated money in the plate and home for Sunday dinner.

More seriously, since you intro'd the volumes, 'radical'? From the Amazon, the most I could see was economics? I am missing a lot, I suspect?

The only thing radical about Yeishuu`a the Nazarene is that He is called "the Branch". That, however, is a reference to the more fundamental meaning of "radical" as that which stems from a root. The newer and frankly counter-intuitive if not indeed counter-factual meaning of "extreme", in the sense of exhibiting a significant departure from the traditional, does not describe Yeishuu`a in the least. Yeishuu`a's self-described modus operandi was to do nothing except what He had seen and was told by His Father. Total obedience was His raison d'être.

Doing nothing except what you are told has nothing whatever to do with the modern sense of "extreme" except in the most cynically ironic sense that unwavering commitment to disciplined conformity is absurdly viewed as peaked non-conformity.

The Luke-Acts volume is only just out, so nobody will have had a chance to read it yet. However, here are the endorsements on the Mark volume, which might be more helpful:

The book draws relies on the approach of Ched Myers in his volume, "Binding the Strong Man": : A Political Reading of Mark's Story of Jesus, so if you have read that and found it useful, I think Luke Kammrath's volumes should both be your thing.

David, I'd agree that what you suggested was indeed Jesus' argument. All prophets have to appeal to their source, to achieve credibility, along with some piece of evidence (miracles, predictions, etc).

But 'radical' is interesting; I've always suspected Jesus as 'radical' was a late-1st century reaction to the calming, organizing world of Ignatus. I'm reading Albright's Matthew commentary (a visit to the dentist will be required from teeth-gritting). But he does make the excellent observation that the 'generation' had to still be alive, in expectation of Jesus' return. 'Matthew' was in a world of witnesses.

A true 'radical' was introduced by Peter (or at least the early Acts writer). Joel was far more radical than Jesus. And so, this fine Saturday morning, Rayner lists new suggested Logos books, which are likely too 'radical' for Logosians ... they're based on Joel.

I'm not sure whether they're based on Joel or not. I guess I see what you're saying more broadly. What I'm mostly doing is listing some of the larger books on my bookshelves in a hope of getting them digitised and selling off the physical copies
