NAS Greek and Hebrew connection

I've really been trying to be good about coming here and complaining about the things that work naturally in Libronix, that don't work in L5, or L6. I understand that there is no real value in this, except hoping that Logos will read it and consider re-instituting some of the features that I've lost in these newer, "better" versions.

I do realize that some of these have work-arounds that will allow me to do only somewhat more work in L5. I'm hoping that this is one of those situations.

In Libronix, the NASB (which happens to be my preferred version) was connected with the Strongs Exhaustive Concordance. So, when reading, if you hover the mouse over any word that actually existed in the Greek or Hebrew (excluding the helping words found in all translations), a small dialogue box would appear with Greek or Hebrew lemma, and how the word has been translated.

It was a massively useful feature. When I was doing in-depth study in a passage, and I would jump over to another passage quickly, or quickly look at a cross-reference, I could just click on a key word here and there, and see what the Greek or Hebrew is. If that piqued my curiosity, I could then do a more extensive search. Also, when I am not doing intensive study/teaching-preaching prep, but reading through a passage, I could quickly view what an original language word was, and then go on.

This useful feature is now gone from the newer, better versions of Logos. However, I would think there would be some simple type of work-around. Does anyone know of a way to gain similar capabilities in L5?

Great question. I can set up the info window to give me what I got in Libronix (original word in Greek or Hebrew, a definition, and Strongs' account as to how many time it is translated in different ways in the KJ version). However, I don't seem to be able to set mine up to give me all the information that yours is giving you in your example above (though I can get it to give me several other pieces of information). For example, your middle arrow on your example is pointing to how the words are translated in other English versions. I can't find that feature in the Settings, but that would be very useful.

Also, in your example above, your bottom arrow points to a morphology, at the bottom of your page (and in fact, yours picks up the article, "ho," also). However, mine won't give me a morphology from my NASB, like yours is here. How would I go about activating that?

I think it is Gloss and the other is morphology. I took the approach of turning everything on at first to see what was available then turning things off that I found I never used.

I bought my base package back in 1997. There were 4 choices, I believe they were called level 1 - level 4. I bought level 3, which was, I think, the Scholars Library.

When I switched to Libronix, I bought what would be considered a much lesser package on clearance at a store, for almost nothing. It had a couple of resources I didn't have, that I could imagine using (Nelson Bible Dictionary, a couple of things like that). At the time, Logos told me that converting to Libronix that way unlocked all of the features of Libroix, which would not have happened if I had just had with just an engine upgrade.

Since that time, I have only added books, no crossgrades or new packages. I'm assuming these features are part of some upgrade/crossgrade I would have had to add from version 4 through 5 (or 6).

Yes. To get everything you see above you need the Feature Crossgrade but Core Crossgrade would be a good start (but it won't give you Translated).

I wouldn't recommend the Info window to anyone with epilepsy or other propensity for seizures--moving the cursor around the screen causes the window to flash and strobe with new information so much that it is certain to induce a grand mal seizure. Al, you are correct...the newer versions of Logos since L3 are a pale ghost of what the program used to be, and no amount of new data sets or flashy do-whats can ever compensate for what was deliberately lost.

This ability to hover and see instantly the word and its meaning is only duplicated in L4/5/6 in the most ham-fisted and clumsy fashion. It's pathetic, and always will be.

Yeah, for the way I use Logos, it feels like they've gone backwards with newer versions. Logos ("Faithlife") is clearly attempting to give people newer tools and features, and they believe these tools will be more useful to more people. And from the posts on this forum, it sounds like this is probably true. It's just tough when that slick new stuff that I will likely never use comes at the cost of the features that I used almost every day.

I found Libronix awkward and arcane to use. I understand why people who became comfortable with it, resist change but I could never have recommended it as a platform for a parish wide Bible study.

I can absolutely understand why some would see Libronix as awkward. I can also understand why it would be difficult for laity to use.

I never thought of myself as resistant to change, or of new technology, but who knows. My kids remind me from time to time that I getting to be an old guy...

Strongs' account as to how many time it is translated in different ways in the KJ version

The Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament shows count by Louw-Nida number (each meaning tends to have its own Louw-Nida number). Thankful for Logos 6 option to not show Chapter and Verse numbers. Also Thankful for visual filter highlighting that can combine hundreds of search results for simultaneous display. The screen shot shows many Greek Tenses and Moods in Matthew 7:
