Workgroep Informatica Constituency Tree Analysis and Syntax Search in Logos 6?

Are, the WIVU Syntax database search and Constituency tree analysis working in Logos/Verbum 6?

A little bit of history:

(1) In Logos 3/Libronix SESB: They were introduced and worked great!

(2) In Logos 4: the functionality of the WIVU Syntax search was dropped, but the Constituency Trees were still visible (although slow).

(3) In Logos 5: The WIVU Constituency Trees were no longer visible. And, people with licenses for them were unable to locate it in their Logos/Verbum libraries.

QUESTIONS:

Have the WIVU Constituency Trees and WIVU Syntax Search been brought back in Logos 6? If, not will they be brought back during Logos 6 life time?

If I understand your question, the WIVU trees are visible in Logos 6, here is a picture below. And as far as I know, they have always been available in Logos 5; I am sure I used them, although I don't have Logos 5 running any more so I can't verify that.

As to your second question, that's one for Logos/Faithlife to answer, but the years of silence tells me don't bet on syntax search for WIVU ever coming back [:(] I seem to recall there was some sort of falling out because the update was discussed by the publisher and Logos (is it German Bible Society that does the WIVU work? Don't remember any more), and then the notice came out that the upgrade was off the table.

So you can look at/refer to WIVU trees, but that's it.

In Logos4 they were visible, but in logos5 they weren't visible to me, and in Logos6 I can't find them in my library. This is something I am going to need to talk to faithlife about. Anyway, thank you so much for your reply!

I'm pretty sure the reason you're only seeing this if you've scanned local copies is that we are purposely not shipping this for Logos 4/5 yet. It's not supported yet. Just today I heard back from one of the database gurus behind the WIVU syntax materials, and I'm told new data will be coming early next year, and they gave me a sample to play with. In any event, whenever the data arrives, we'll get all this polished up for Logos 4/5.

Well, now Logos 6 has arrived but the WIVU syntax materials are still missing in action.

This is Tarcizio from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The same happens to me. The only difference is that since the time I migrated to a Mac computer, which means since Logos 4, the Constituency didn't show up. Logos 4 on my Windows desktop at work, it was still there, but not on Macs, since Logos 4. I have written once and while to Logos, but there is no crystal clear answer about it... and I still do not see the resource I have paid for.

Well, let's keep track of the undelivered/removed/stopped-supporting Logos behaviors:

1. Hebrew interlinear with Anderson-Forbes morphology: quietly removed with Logos morphology substituted.

2. Richter morphology sold in 2009 to users; to date not delivered. Last comment a year-ago or so?

3. WIVU syntax search and constituency trees. Syntax support not continued (to-date), WIVU trees not available to some/most users.

All paid for. 2009; over five years ago. I think we're approaching 'bad form' (vapor-ware or from the legal-beagles, fraud at least on #2).

Adding to Don, here's the Logos6 screen image on the 2 WIVU's below. The lower-left search panel shows WIVU missing. Interestingly, WIVU display was improved in 6.1 (visualizations). Also interesting, it's possible to shut down L6 and it remain in memory just like Libronix. I found that out, when L6 hanged on startup.

EDIT: I was just curious. I notice the right-click on the BHS-WIVU doesn't pick up the full morph-info. The right-click on the WIVU-Trees does. Clearly, someone's working the code at various points.

Seems to show the tree in L6, W8.1 . Recently the Hebrew font changed in the tree, but as I understand, it still has the WIVU morphology. Actually it has many morphologies I was not even aware of [:)], but no Richter [:(].

EDIT: maybe I misunderstood something, with Hebrew interlinear, what resource did you actually mean?

First, just to be clear, on the search, it's the syntax search using WIVU that disappeared. I hope I didn't misunderstand you.

And regarding interlinears (I hope George is watching the news), below is the hebrew interlinear with Anderson-Forbes (L3); below that the substituted interlinear with Logos morphology (L4-6). Now, the latter will make sense for most (almost all?) users ... consistency among resources. When I use AF, I have to use a conversion table. But AF has quite a bit in it that could detect more than the Logos morph structure can. Luckily for me, I kept the AF-based product (contra assurances from Logos and its forum partners).

Isn't the Andersen- Frobes coding still available on The Hebrew Bible: Andersen-Forbes Analyzed Text Logos Bible Software, 2008.

And isn't part of the issue the underlying Hebrew text ... or at least it appear to be at the point I opened the resources.

Your second question speaks to the issue of 'resources' vs datasets, etc. How long-term are morphologies, especially if the associated text gets updated? I would argue the resource gets left behind, and a new one added. I can think of several morphologies in that boat on the NT side. But the OT gets short shrift.

Just to clarify: in what way is the current AFAT implementation worse than the Libronix A-F morphology?

I thought the underlying data is the same, if not better, in AFAT?
