6.1 requires my discrete graphics processor on a Macbook Pro Retina
I don't remember this being the case in the past. I usually launch Logos and then give it a desktop to use through the day. Requiring the discrete card means it will make too big a drain on the battery to continue doing that.

Hi Steve:
Logos 6.1 should not be causing your rMBP to switch to the discrete graphics processor. You might wish to download the free "gfxCardStatus" utility to see what's going on. The utility will also allow you to manually switch back to the integrated graphics processor. You can download it from https://gfx.io/.

Thanks Charles, I do run gfxCardStatus.
And I agree it shouldn't be causing my rMBP to run the discrete processor
If I set Logos to boot into my layout (who I have now done), it does okay. But once I go to the Logos home screen, it switches to the discrete card and then will not return to the integrated processor until I quit Logos.

It has to do with what Logos is pulling from the Logos website. When I visit www.logos.com in Safari, I'm having the same problem—my rMPB keeps switching cards depending on the webpage.

Apple just yesterday announced new MacBook Pro models. But to answer your question, yes, a discrete graphics card will speed up the performance of any application which is graphic intensive. Logos appears to be an application that benefits from a discrete graphics processor. The only Apple notebook models that sport the discrete processor are the more expensive 15" retina MacBook Pros. I use a 27" iMac with discrete graphics processor for all our Logos work and am very satisfied with its performance.

That's what I would have thought - but if people are complaining that it uses their discrete graphics, does that not imply that they think it shouldn't?
