Google analytics
I am trying to set up a secure account on my iMac where my family can access Logos but not accidentally do much else!
I do not want them to use their own accounts because the resources and indices are all stored per local user. (I am unaware of any Logos statement about sub-accounts that could hide resources for different family members, is such a thing coming?)
The obvious answer is to use the excellent (until Lion) parental controls.
The problem is that every time I launch Logos (the app) I am seeing warning messages about Logos trying access to 'https://ssl.google-analytics.com'.
Is this a trojan (or whatever it is called)? I cannot see why running the Logos app (not a browser but just the app) would be sending data to a 3rd party.
Is Logos actually sending data to a 3rd party? If it is a genuine Logos policy then why? what data? and how do I stop it?

Martin - "google-analytics" is related to advertising. It is not a trojan. Have you tried turning off the homepage on Logos (which is full of advertising)? Does it still bring up the warning? Short answer - don't worry about it (unless you are worried about little green men too).

I use google analytics on my church's website. We use it to gather anonymous stats on users and how they surf the site. It also works great at analyzing search queries and how traffic reaches one's site.

For secure account, wonder about setting "Use Internet" to No ? (avoid syncing Logos information)

We do too - and I think "anonymous" is the key. Google Analytics data is very general and high-level. You can't figure out anything about any individual person, and from a web development or advertising perspective, I'm not sure why you'd want to.
As for complaints about Logos (or Bob) advertising in "our" Bible study program, I have no problem with it. I like seeing specials on my homepage and I believe it's pretty easy to turn off if you really want to. Personally, I think I'm smart enough to make decisions about what I buy based on what is good for me.

I don't have Logos open right now, but I seem to remember a Program Setting about sending automatic feedback to Logos. Try setting that to No.

Logos 4 sends a very limited amount of data to our Google Analytics account at app startup to aid in our planning for future versions. The vast majority of the information is stuff that gets sent to any website you might visit. The only "special" pieces of data (that is, data that we specifically add) we store on Google Analytics are
- Application version (so that we can tell if something goes wrong with our automatic update process)
- Whether the app is configured to start up with the home page or the most recently used layout (no details of homepage or layout configuration are sent)
- Whether the computer can run 64-bit apps
- Specific OS version
Update: if you are running a stable release, setting the "Send Feedback" option in Program Settings to "None" will prohibit Logos 4 from sending any data to Google Analytics.

this seems to be broken with L6.1 sr-3 ... With no feedback being sent ... logos seems to be trying to send data via the Google servers. Could you please clarify what the situation is? I am concerned not only for my twins but myself ... I am increasingly concerned about any role that Google may have in collecting any data ... Especially when I am not made aware of it.

I've investigated and found a bug that can cause your "Send Feedback" preference to be ignored. This will be fixed in an upcoming release.
I sincerely apologise for this oversight; we know your privacy and preferences are important, and it was not our intent to override your preferences in this matter. For now, turning off "Use Internet" will stop all Internet communication (including with Google Analytics) and can be used as a workaround.

Please start a new thread under the correct software - Logos 4 is an old version run only by those whose operating system doesn't permit an upgrade. Tell us what you are running and what resources you expect to see.

That isn't exactly true. I use Google Analytics and don't find it difficult at all to determine the behavior of some individuals. Not that I need to know or want to know, it just jumps out as obvious. Location, service provider, OS, time of access, What was accessed, access behavior, etc.
