Pricing model for mobile Ed video resources

I am a newbie to the Logos universe and I am very impressed indeed with the width and breadth of the resources and  more importantly the powerful way they are integrated and the degrees of magnitude that this can undoubtedly have on any Bible study endeavours.

The few overviews of the mobile Ed videos that I have seen have been very impressive with the crisp videography and professional presentation. Add to that all the linking and resources to mimic all the other modes of information within Logos - then these videos are powerful learning tools indeed.

Surely they are worth the prices asked and we surely would like the developers to have the monies needed to help the libraries to expand...

But alas with the courses starting at over $100 per series it would seem that they are outside the reach of many potential students of The Word.

I am actually probably better off than many potential viewers but will have to be content with written and audio media for the most part.

Am I the only person who thinks this? I wonder would others avail themselves of these powerful teaching resources if the price point was more accessible. I imagine the marketers have done their research and come up with a fair price for the quality of the content and with respect to the authors of the content.

But just for the sake of discussion could I humbly ask what would the effect be if the price was reduced by for example 50% but by so doing you enabled the viewing base to increase by more than 100% If my basic maths is correct you would have a net gain in revenue. Moreover with an expanding base the authors standing would be increased, ancillary sales for other products associated with the videos would increase and a critical mass would enable further potential cuts in the core pricing. You could probably test the veracity of this by using a tool that has already been built - the Pre Pub feature. You could for example ask the Logos User base what they would be prepared to pay for a teaching series and let the laws of supply and demand or needs and wants to play out. If the interest was enough perhaps a trial pricing could be offered in "good faith" :-)

Not forgetting what our main mission is - spreading, preaching and teaching the Gospel what if "Church pricing" was introduced so that a community/home church could purchase one copy of the videos and legally show them to a class of students in a bible study format. Public viewing in a not for profit environment or up to 10 students.

Please be assured I absolutely do not begrudge "the worker their wages" and the academic/technical merit that has gone in to the video (excerpts) that I have seen.

Again my only observation is that these clever people could reach a larger congregation for the glory of God.

Cheers Steve

Edit: I imagine you meant to say the Community Pricing program.  All Mobile Ed courses currently go through the Pre-Pub program.

    Welcome to the forums Steve,

Faithlife has already offered one Mobile Ed course through the Pre-Pub Community Pricing program.

Mobile Ed: NT221 The Wisdom of John: A Socio-Rhetorical Commentary on Johannine Literature by Ben Witherington III

It was a stunning success, maybe too much so. Faithlife has not commented on it or repeated the action. And they have priced the final product at a comparably prohibitive level.

    Cheers Super Tramp,

No I wasn't actually aware of the Community pricing program - I am very new! But that sounded encouraging.

Your final comment seems to indicate that you might also feel the pricing of these products is beyond many folks. We need a good Christian marketing advocate to make a case perhaps...

Many have commented on the price. Super.Tramp was commenting on the fact that SO many people bidding on the John course that those who place a community price bid got it for a huge discount. However, for the price to go this low in community pricing must have meant that they sold this course to a huge number of people. I doubt that very many people have purchased it since as most who are interested probably purchase it at the CP price.

Wow, I am pleasantly relieved to see I spoke to soon about pricing models for resources. [*-)] Community Pricing is a great concept.  I will certainly try to get involved in this method of purchasing materials. Again though perhaps the model could be extended to Post production as well.

Thanks for your reply Keith. Yes I guess its a matter of keeping your finger on the pulse of resources that one might be interested in.

I agree with this scenario and hope Faithlife will some day try it.

It is not that I think the Mobile Ed courses are over-priced, I don't. I think they are high quality. It is just that many Logos users don't have the extra money to spend on it. I liken it to duck hunting in a lake full of ducks but the game warden says you can only shoot one. For every one course I get I watch ten others slip on by.  I would like to get them all.
