Why 3 Search Options on one page?

Can someone help me understand why there are 3 search boxes/options on the same page (see attached image)?

Do these do somethign different? If yes, what? As new users, how would iI know or understand the difference?

If they do the same thing, why have all 3? It just adds to the learning curve.

Joe,

#1 is the command line. It allows for much more than searching. For Example "Open NRSV".

#2 starts both the passage guide and the exegetical guide and opens 1 bible and 1 commentary (it appears to open the first on the list - Ancient Christian COmmentary for me. Don't know why it doesn't open the preferred commentary set). I don't know what it does if you type in a topic.

#3 opens the search pane, with all its sundry optins.

okay, but can't we open all that from the command line?

It just seems a little overwhelming to have 2 search boxes and one search icon all at one time. Maybe that is just me :-(

The search panel is sub-divided into UI for Basic, Bible, Morph, and Syntax searching. Some of these require more controls and more space; it would be hard to fit them into the command bar up top, especially if we want it to be always visible.

The command bar is really intended more as a navigation aid; typing ESV defaults to opening the ESV, not searching for that acronym. Putting search as an option there was intended as an added convenience.

The home page search box is the one I can most agree is redundant, but since what you can type there is almost always a Bible passage or pericope title, and since we invested so much in teaching the "Enter Passage, Click Go" concept, we thought it made sense to keep it. Otherwise when you typed something there we'd have to offer a lot of options -- does "John" mean you're starting to type a passage, a pericope title, an author's name, etc?

After testing out some more searches, I see what you mean. It is just a lot to take in and understand from the get-go. As long as the release of 4.0 has some simple videos, it should be fine.

The GO search takes up a lot of home page real-estate though.
