I would like to be able to use the library "Series" filter to apply a tag to all the resources in a series and to add all the resources in a series to a collection.

To my knowledge that can't be done, but I'm hoping I just don't know the process.  Can it be done?

My mistake on not being able to use "Series" for adding to collections--I must have been fat-fingering the series name or had another problem with the criteria line I was entering.

So, the question only remains for tagging.

    Sort your library by series.

Expand the series you want to tag

Select all of the resources in that series. In Window click the first one and then shift click the last one in the series

Open the information pane (click the i in the upper left of the library pane)

    Add tag

Following these steps a tag will be added to all resources in the series.

    It's a simple three-step process:

    1. Enter your library filter field (e.g. series:"New International Commentary on the Old and New Testament").
    2. Select all the resources that are filtered by selecting the first one, then shift+clicking on the last, or by selecting the first one and then pressing CTRL+A.
    3. Enter the tag in the resource information panel (if it's not showing, click the (i) button at the top of the library).

Warning from one who went down this path. The number of collections you build this way can dramatically affect performance of certain functions. Using the series name to create temporary collections mixed with a more limited set of permanent collections mitigates the problem.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Thanks everyone!  I had used "CTRL" click to select a couple of titles before, but failed to consider that the "SHIFT" click approach is so quick and easy that for all practical purposes, it's just as convenient for tagging all the resources in a series as it would be if I could select the series name on just one of the resources and use that to apply a tag to the whole series.

MJ, thanks for the warning about the potential performance impact of assigning entire series to collections.  I'll be watchful for that and mindful of my use of that approach.
