Enhancement Request: Two tiered search

Id like a search that can do this.

1) Search on a given word

2) The results return a list of verses on the search range

3) This list of verses could be turned into a list of passages by another option which extends it by some number before and after the verse. (e.g. Say a search finds Jn 10.10 with a stack of other verses. If the 'range' value was set to 2, the passage returned would be Jn 10.8-12.

4) Another option was made available after this search which then listed the x most common words (perhaps excluding another default list of glut and filler words) within that list of verses or passages.

Covenant for example might return verses / passages which contain law, faithfulness, steadfast love, Israel for example.

The list of words associated with steadfast love might contain righteousness, promises, forgive, save.

The list of words associated with law might contain command, transgression, etc.

Hence with this feature covenant or any other word could be associated with a series of once removed words and have a better ability to highlight relationships among the words.

Is it done already? Do you need someone to write code to do this? Id love this function.

Hi Joshua - and welcome to the forums

    1) Search on a given word

    2) The results return a list of verses on the search range

    3) This list of verses could be turned into a list of passages by another option which extends it by some number before and after the verse. (e.g. Say a search finds Jn 10.10 with a stack of other verses. If the 'range' value was set to 2, the passage returned would be Jn 10.8-12.

You can turn the search results into a "Passage List"

but there is no mechanism to extend the size of a passage. What particular value are you seeing in this?

    4) Another option was made available after this search which then listed the x most common words (perhaps excluding another default list of glut and filler words) within that list of verses or passages.

Covenant for example might return verses / passages which contain law, faithfulness, steadfast love, Israel for example.

The way you can get close to this is using the "sense" of a word as defined in the Bible Sense Lexicon (depending on what version of Logos Software you are using and which package)

Taking "decrees" from Ps 119:5 and right-clicking on it there is a "sense" associated with it called "Regulation"

Selecting that and clicking on "Bible Sense Lexicon" at the top left you see a hierarchy of relationships

So "regulation" is a subset of "rule (prescript)" which, in turn, is a subset of "instruction (message)"

Clicking on "instruction (message)" changes the view in the hierarchy and allows you to do a search at the higher level

    which gives

    Hope this helps, Graham

It's not exactly this, but if you are using Logos 6, you can do something close using an Inline Search. Open the resource you want to search. Then...

    1. Click the magnifying glass button to open the inline search pane
    2. Change the context to Paragraph (not all resources have the paragraph option available)
    3. Type your search and hit enter, or click the arrow button on the right side of the box
    4. Click the "Send search" button
    5. Select the passage list option

Thanks Graham. I'm impressed with the speedy response.

I'm using Logos Bible Software 5.2b SR-9 (5.2.2.1629)  and I suspect that option of Logos 6?

Bible Sense Lexicon looks like a good option. I don't think I have it though.

    Thanks Andrew.

    I'm using Logos Bible Software 5.2b SR-9 (5.2.2.1629).

That option looks interesting as well.

If you're running Windows 7 or later, you can update to Logos 6 for free: https://www.logos.com/install
