New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology: Abridged Edition available in pre-pub

I have been waiting for Logos to offer this book for years. I have both the multi-volume New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology as well as the abridged version and in my opinion the abridged version actually surpasses the multi-volume in quality. If anyone is consideering purchasing the New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology ($135.99) I would recommend choosing the abridged version instead ($30.99 pre-pub).

Highly recommended by John Glynn in his Commentary & Reference Survey. Glyn writes that it is an "ample abridgment of the NIDNTT (35 percent plus 7 percent new entries), excercising classic references, topical articles, theological digressions, bibliographies, etc."

The average review on Amazon is 4.6 out of 5. The lowest score is a 3 (5 for content but marked down by the reviewer for poor quality binding - something that e book readers don't need to worry about Big Smile ).

I am hoping that this will more out of pre pub quickly.

That would be worth knowing. Shouldn't there be a revised abridged edition? I know the audience probably doesn't need the cutting edge, but still you would not want to be uninformed.

The old NIDNTT was a translation and enlargement of a German work (Theologisches Begriffslexikon zum Neuen Testament). The new NIDNTT is a completely new dictionary written by Silva himself (Silva's work is by all account excellent and is on my wish list for when I can afford it); therefore to compare the two works would be like comparing Spicq's Theological Lexicon of the NT to the NIDNTT they are 2 different lexicons. As far as an abridgment of the new NIDNTT, I don't see that coming very soon. It was over 15 year before an abridged addition came out for the old version. While it may not take 15 years, Zondervan will understandably want to earn something of the new edition as well as increase its popularity before offering an abridgment. Again the price difference for SIlva's dictionary and Verbrugge's abridgement is substantial ($200 vs $31) so I still feel that Verbrugge's abridgment is worth the price of $31.
