[resolved] Layouts - How do I...?

How do I get Logos 6 to open to exactly how things were laid out before the program closed last time? Sometimes my Windows machine freezes, or for whatever reason I have to do an unplanned reboot. When I restart Logos 6, it seems to always open to the last saved version of the active layout.
How do I get it to always remember my most recent layout, regardless of whether I saved it or not, and reopen to that most recent layout (e.g. before a computer crash)?
Thanks,
Peter

Go to Layouts, and select the layout in your history titled "Application Closed"
Shouldn't setting preferences to open to "most recent layout - local" do the same thing? [It should, I think it does, but does it?]

Good call Alabama.

Thanks Jacob. I'll try that next time. I don't recall seeing this listed in my layout list though.
alabama, that's the first option I tried but it doesn't do what you and I thought it would do. It always opens to the last actively saved version of the layout.

I will experiment, but you might end up needing to do a bug report with logs, details, etc. I don't switch layouts often, but I haven't noticed a problem... I will mess around a bit and see if I see the same thing.

Give your layout a name in the Layout menu and load that from the list in At Startup Open to (in Program Settings). If you want to save changes then use Update Active Layout command; which you can save as a shortcut.

But that won't do what he is asking to do! Peter is saying that he wants the app to open back up exactly as he left it, no matter what layout (named or not!).

'bama is right about using 'Most recent layout - local' but I was puzzled by your statement that "It always opens to the last actively saved version of the layout." vs your request to "remember my most recent layout, regardless of whether I saved it or not". It is the only method that will re-open to that layout BUT Logos will only do that when it exits normally. If you have to reboot the computer close Logos first. If you want to minimise the damage of a potential crash then update active layout during your session. When Logos restarts after a crash it will revert to the most recent layout that it saved (called "Application Closed"), so you can restore yours if it is newer (it will have the name of your active layout).

You can't always get back to the layout exactly as it was before a crash, just like you can't always restore a word processor document to exactly the way it was before your computer crashed. As in word processing, where if you saved your document manually, or if it was autosaved, then you can restore to that version, likewise in Logos. If there were changes made to the layout after it was last saved, all of that will be lost in a crash. Manually updating the layout every so often is a good idea if your computer is prone to crashing frequently.
If you're merely trying to get Logos to open back up to however you left it when you last closed it, whether you saved that active layout as a named layout or not, then go into Program Settings and change "At Startup Open to" to "Most recent layout - local". But this won't protect you against the crash scenario. The only thing that will is manually saving the layout, which it sounds like it isn't what you want to do.
How often does Logos crash on you (or your computer crash for other reasons) anyway? Is this a common problem? Hopefully the "Most recent layout - local" solution will work for you in 99% of the cases.

PL have we helped with your query? Is there anything that is unclear?

Sorry I was offline for a few days. Thanks for all your help and explanation. Very helpful. I'm now getting into a habit of Updating Active.
Meetings frequent crashes seem to have to do with my unplugging the external monitor while computer is on Sleep. Trying to figure out the exact scenario and solution.
Btw what's the difference between Most recent layout- local and Most recent layout - any?
thanks

"Any" allows sessions to flow from one computer to another e.g. close a study on your office computer and resume it on your home computer (both being set to "Any").
Therefore "local" means to pick up sessions from the same computer.
