[ACK] BUG: Locator Bar won't remain open in ESV in saved layouts

I use a fairly standard layout for most of my sermon and Bible study prep.  This usually includes several versions of the Bible opened in different tabs in the same panel, including 3 separate ESV's, an NASB95, NIV84, NIV11, NKJV, etc.  I like to keep the Locator Bar open on each Bible, but when I close the layout, or close Logos, and then reopen the program and reopen the layout, the Locator Bar on the ESV's has closed and I have to reopen it again on each ESV tab.  The other versions continue to display the Locator Bar.  I've tried opening the Locator Bar on each ESV and then saving the layout, but when I close and open the program to that layout, the Locator Bar is missing from each ESV (though it's still visible in the other translations).  This seems to be a bug in my way of thinking, but perhaps I'm missing something here. (I've been known to do so before! Smile)

I would also note a similar but slightly different problem with the Inline Interlinear and the ESV.  I like to have one ESV open in a different panel than the other three ESV's, and have that one display the Inline Interlinear (similar to the original way Logos did interlinears).  When I save and close the layout, and then reopen it later, all the ESV's in the layout display the inline interlinear, not just the one I set to do so previously.  Then I have to change each of the ones where I don't want to see the inline interlinear.  A bit of a pain.  Shouldn't it be possible to set each tab independently and have Logos remember that setting, especially in a saved layout?  Any light that can be shed on this would be appreciated!  Thanks.

Darcy

when I close the layout, or close Logos, and then reopen the program and reopen the layout, the Locator Bar on the ESV's has closed

I tried to reproduce the issue with three ESV's but the locator bar remained open. Are you on Mac?

What other bars were open e.g. TOC, Inline Search, Interlinear? A screenshot may help.

When I save and close the layout, and then reopen it later, all the ESV's in the layout display the inline interlinear, not just the one I set to do so previously.

This is s known limitation, similar to Visual Filters.

I'm on a PC running Win 7 Home Premium.  No TOC or Inline Search open.  Interlinear pane is open.  Interestingly enough, when I tried to replicate the problem with the Locator Bar, the first time I closed and reopened the layout (after saving it with the Locator Bars visible) and it showed up unchanged (ie Locator Bars still visible).  So I tried saving the layout and closing Logos altogether and reopening it.  Same result, Locator Bars all visible in all 3 ESV tabs.  Then I closed Logos, opened a copy of MS Word and closed it.  Then I reopened Logos to a blank layout and then reopened the saved layout, and voila, no ESV Locator Bars (but they're still visible in the NASB, NKJV, NIV, etc.).  I don't know if opening another program (ie MS Word) made the difference, but the Locator Bars are no longer visible in the ESV.  I've attached a screenshot showing the layout after the last session, with the missing LB's in the ESV tabs (hope it works).  Thanks.

I'm afraid I've got to leave my office for a hospital visit at the moment.  I'll check back later for further input.  Thanks for your help, Dave (and anyone else who pitches in).  Blessings.

Thanks, Dave!  Appreciate your input.  I'm sure there are others who've had similar problems, so I hope FL is able to take a look at it.

Then I closed Logos, opened a copy of MS Word and closed it.  Then I reopened Logos to a blank layout and then reopened the saved layout, and voila, no ESV Locator Bars (but they're still visible in the NASB, NKJV, NIV, etc.).

I'm not able to replicate this with an ESV and NASB linked that both have the Locator bar, and an ESV without that is not linked.

Have you been able to replicate it in this way more than once? Have you tried replicating it with a less complicated layout? Try creating a layout with just the ESV open, enable the Locator bar, save it as it's own layout, and see if the behavior continues. If it doesn't add on to it until it does.

I've been working on this for the past hour and its behavior is quite inconsistent and hard to pin down.  But after trying what you suggested, I think I've possibly isolated the issue:  it seems to lose the Locator Bar setting when I change from one layout to another.  I'm currently loading a layout with one tab of ESV (on the left half of the Logos screen, leaving the right half blank), opening the Locator Bar, and saving it as LB Test Layout #1.  I then created a second layout, again with one ESV tab (this time to a different Scripture reference, and situated on the right half of the Logos screen, with the left half blank), also with the Locator Bar open, and saved as LB Test layout #2.  When I open the first layout, then go to the layout menu and replace it by opening the second layout, it opens with the Locator Bar not showing.  I then set the Locator Bar to show, save the layout and open the other layout.  It opens with the Locator Bar not showing.  I open the Locator Bar, save the layout and reopen the first layout, and the Locator Bar is again invisible! If I hit 'close all' before opening the second layout, the result is the same - no Locator Bar visible.  Here's a screen shot of the 2nd layout opened after closing the 1st layout (both previously saved with the Locator Bar visible).

However, even this behavior is inconsistent.  After alternately reopening each of the layouts several times, they began opening with the Locator Bar opened!  So I tried opening an earlier more complicated layout, which also opened with the Locator Bar visible.  But then when I went back to the simple LB Test Layout #1, it opened with the LB invisible.  I then opened LB Test Layout #2 and it also opened with the LB invisible!  So this is quite inconsistent.  I think the change from one layout to another might be part of the equation, but I'm still not sure how.  Any ideas?

You're using the term invisible. This leads me to believe there is an area for the locator bar but with the text missing. Is the setting checked to not show the Locator bar when this happens?

I was able to replicate the behavior after navigating to a layout where the locator bar was not enabled. I can do this consistently. I wonder if any of the books where a Locator bar is disabled is in your larger layout.

Sorry, by 'invisible' I simply mean that the Locator Bar isn't displayed.  Ctrl + Shift + L toggles the Locator Bar so that it is displayed/not displayed.  My point is that in the cases I mentioned, when I opened a saved layout where the Locator Bar was displayed when I last saved and closed the layout, the layout now opens with the Locator Bar in the ESV not displayed (ie invisible).  Sorry if the choice of the word 'invisible' was confusing.  It's not that the text for the Locator Bar was missing, but that the Locator Bar was not displayed when it should have been.

In my original complex layout where I first documented the issue, all of the Bibles in the same panel have the Locator Bar enabled, as do all of the commentaries in a separate panel.  However in another panel I have Greek NT's without the Locator Bar enabled (at least not in every tab), and another panel with Dictionaries, etc. where none of the resources have the Locator Bar enabled.  In other words there is a mixture of resources with the LB enabled and disabled, though the Bibles in question (including 3 copies of the ESV) are all in the same panel, and all of them have the LB enabled.  The issue is basically that if I make sure the LB is showing in each Bible, and save the layout, and then open it again later (usually after having opened and closed a different saved layout), the LB in the ESV's is no longer showing, though it is in the other Bibles.  As far as I know, the LB in the other resources has remained in the same state (showing or not showing) as it was when I had previously saved and closed the layout.

Bump.  Still having this problem often when I open a saved layout.  The Locator Bar on other Bible versions is displayed, but on none of the several ESV Bibles is it displayed when I open the layout (even though I previously saved the layout with the LB displayed).  This means I have to manually open the LB for each ESV tab when I open the layout, which gets a bit old after a while.  Any FL input on this? Thanks.
