[resolved] BUG when entering a verse in a commentary window...

It is a bug and a suggestion at the same time.

1. I opened a commentary, specifically, Pillar New Testament Commentary: The Gospel accroding to John.

2. I entered john 4:14 to look up the contents for verse John 4:14, obviously.

3. But the text box interprets that string into "John 4:1–42"...and the content goes to the top of chapter 4.

4. I can see why it does... 4:14 matched to 4:1-4 somehow... and the commentary has index for 4:1-42, and even though the contents is devided into many verse groups. it has a block for 4:13-14, but this block is not listed in the index.

5. But it would be great if I enter John 4:14, it goes to the section of 4:13-14 instead of the start of chapter 4!

What is interesting to me is that when I click on a hyperlinked verse number in the content of the commentary (like in 4:25, there is the content like the following:

"Samaritans preferred ‘Taheb’ (cf. notes on 4:4, 11–12, 19–20), ‘the Restorer’, or possibly ‘he who returns’."

And when I click '4:4', for example, the content does directly to 4:4, even though there is no index pointing to 4:4 (I told in the original bug report that there is index for 4:1-42, and no more specificity in the index)

So, then, it means, it's possible to make logos 6 goes to the content of 4:4 directly from the search box!

When you entered John 4:14 into the entry box, the drop down menu offered you the two points it believes it can send you based on the indexing. The first entry is automatically selected so hitting enter is the equivalent of selecting the first entry. As you want the second entry, you need to move down to the second option. There is not address point that corresponds precisely to the verse you entered therefore it does not appear in the selection box.

    4. I can see why it does... 4:14 matched to 4:1-4 somehow... and the commentary has index for 4:1-42, and even though the contents is devided into many verse groups. it has a block for 4:13-14, but this block is not listed in the index.

When you enter Jn 4:14 many commentaries will show something like:-

    Go to:

     John 4:1-42

     John 4:13-14

giving the entries close to, or containing, your verse.

    1. The Pillar NT Commentary does offer this choice as per Martha's post.

    2. If you create a PG for Jn 4:14 where does the link take you in Pillar? I would expect Jn 4:13-14 to be the destination as this is the result for BKC.

In general, Yes! But I think you are confusing 4:4 with 4:14:-

    4. I can see why it does... 4:14 matched to 4:1-4 somehow... and the commentary has index for 4:1-42, and even though the contents is devided into many verse groups. it has a block for 4:13-14, but this block is not listed in the index.

    Matching 4:1-4 is confusing.

Wow! Thanks everybody! At least, I can afford to give a click instead of enter...
