[resolved] Fonts stripped from my Fonts folder?!

I had recently noticed that the SBL Hebrew and Gentium fonts were not displaying properly in my Word documents. Now with the recent Logos 6.3 update, it appears that is to blame (see the Release Notes https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_6.3_SR-1 ). Please correct me if I'm wrong. The so-called "Missing Logos Fonts" (see https://www.logos.com/support/logos6/windows/missing-fonts ) are not just Logos fonts; some are third-party.

It seems instrusive to me that Logos would strip fonts from my Windows Fonts folder, especially without notifying customers. It has just taken some time out of my busy day to manually reinstall SBL Hebrew and Greek, Gentium, Zebul Open (Ugaritic), etc. I would appreciate some explanation from Logos personnel what they consider proper protocols. Thanks.

Agreed.

On the surface, this looks a bit like the Amazon fiasco from a few years ago where they went in and deleted a book on a few hundred thousand Kindles without telling anyone. I doubt it is that bald-faced, but it does seem a bit 'sketchy' to use one of my teenager's terms.

I've read a couple of FL Employee explanations, but they really didn't make any sense to me. Perhaps someone else can interpret for them.

I am quite furious with Faithlife for doing this. I am busy with my PHD Dissertation and I was unaware that Logos removed fonts from my system. I worked on my thesis one evening and everything was 100%. The next morning when I opened my document to continue my work, all my Hebrew passages were suddenly not showing the correct Hebrew font. I spend hours trying to correct the problem (remember, I did not know that Logos removed the fonts from my system - so I never thought to look there). I wasted hours of precious time trying to fix this.If I knew this was going to happen I could have fixed it easily. Looking back, the solution is so clear and simple. But when working under time limits and stressing about completing your work in time, the last thing you check is to see if the font, that you have been using for years, were deleted from your system by a third-party. I will never be able to recover the hours wasted. Now, because of this I am even under more pressure. Thanks, Faithlife (being very sarcastic here)

If someone could just tell my why we, as paying customers, were not warned about this beforehand. I feel that Faithlife owes me, and all other customers impacted by this, an apology. It will surely not change anything, but at least they will realize the trouble and headache they caused.

There seem to be a couple misconceptions about what happened in this case and what will happen going forward.

With 6.2 and prior releases we included an installer for prerequisits (required to run the application). For 6.3 we removed the prereqs installer because it interfered with our auto update process.

Uninstalling the prereqs also removed any fonts that we had installed with a previous prereqs install. It doesn't remove any fonts other than fonts that we specifically attempted to install with the prereqs at an earlier point in time. To my knowledge all fonts that we were installing are referenced on the support page.

When you update after having installed 6.3 we will not need to uninstall the prereqs (because they've already been uninstalled). Because we don't uninstall them we will not uninstall (or install) fonts.

We were aware that these fonts may be used by applications outside of our application. We were not aware of the number of people who used them outside of the app. On the mac we've never installed fonts (which is why these conversations usually don't include mac users).

We proactively created a support page with information about how to find fonts that are needed for work outside of Logos. I will talk to the support team about the possibility of adding sample images to that page so you can more easily figure out which fonts you are looking for.

It doesn't ease the pain but it does explain the situation.

Although I do understand the reasons, you are correct: it does not ease the pain of hours lost because Faithlife never thought of just warning us beforehand. I well, let me get back to work!
