Just downloaded the Theology Cross Reference Dataset. What is it?
It's the dataset that powers the upcoming Systematic Theologies guide section (for Bible reference-based guides), which will be in 6.4 Beta 1 next week for Logos Now subscribers.

I just spent 10 minutes trying to look this up but didn't find anything. Thanks for the explanation.
I'm not sure I've seen this question asked or answered. It seems from some of the information on Logos Now that it is replacing the beta testing program. Is there any reason to have our update channel set to beta if we do not subscribe to Logos Now? Some comments like the one I bolded above as well as the introductory post seem to hint that Now is the new beta format. I may be misunderstanding, but will non Now subscribers continue to get beta updates or just stable releases?
Some beta features are limited to those who subscribe, others apply to all. For example I believer the updater improvements were not restricted to only those who subscribe to Logos Now. I would anticipate that improvements made to the software engine and existing tools and features will continue to be beta tested as they have always been.

I believe it is more accurate to describe Logos Now as replacing the aging process. Rather than aging significant additions while waiting for the next major release, the additions now go into Logos Now. I'm still trying to decide whether vellum and leather or oak casks is the best icon for Logos Now.

Logos Now is not replacing the beta testing program. You can beta test with or without Logos Now.
If you look at the Logos 6.3 release notes (https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_6.3), you'll see that they're divided into two sections: Logos Now features, and improvements for all users.
Users who joined the 6.3 beta test without Logos Now got the opportunity to test and provide feedback on silent updates, bulk tagging in Library, improved spell-checking in Notes, and various other improvements.
Users who subscribed to Logos Now who joined the 6.3 beta also got to test Concordance improvements and a new Grammars guide section.
It will be similar for Logos 6.4: if you don't have Logos Now, you can test the general program improvements; if you do subscribe to Logos Now, you can also test features only in Logos Now.
And if you don't join the beta, you will get access to these features in about six weeks when Logos 6.4 ships to all users (with the caveat that Logos Now features require a Logos Now subscription).
That was my hunch! Thanks Phil
Sorry if this has been answered already. Will this "Systematic Theologies" section (delivered next week) be only for the Logos Now people who are also beta testers? Or is for all Logos Now clients?
Mike
I must be missing something.
In Phil's post you quote he says it will be for beta testers.
Graham
Mike, since it is being released through the beta channel (it is in beta testing at this point), you must be on that channel to get the feature. In about six weeks, testing is to be finished and it will be released to the default or stable channel and non-beta testers will have it.
So will this charge make it's way into the desktop app eventually?
No:
I don't believe we know the answer to that question
it is Logos Now, so you'll need to be a subscriber to use it when it is released from beta testing. If you are not a subscriber you won't have access to it (at least until Logos 7 is released and perhaps not even then, but that discussion is on some other threads.)
No:So will this charge make it's way into the desktop app eventually?
I must've missed it so can you direct me to where Faithlife said, definitively ("No"), this feature will not eventually find its way into the desktop app. Thanks in advance.
There was some post where FL said this kind of dataset will make it into the next version of Logos: at this stage version 7 would be the one - then it will be included for everyone free of charge with Feature Crossgrade or a base-package upgrade (Silver level of any kind or Verbum Scripture Study may be required). New major versions come out every two years nowadays. Version 6 came out in October 2014.
EDIT: Feature? I thought You said charge? Faithlife is not going to start charging regular customers a subscription fee - everyone will eventually get most of the functionality and databases Logos Now subscribers get in advance - provided customers keep upgrading to major new version either through some of the Crossgrade alternatives or base-package upgrades. Since version 5 the custom has been that Silver and Scripture Study -levels contain most of the functionality of the software:

Which reminded me that I needed to change the name to "Systematic Theology Cross References Dataset." And I just did that, in case someone notes the name discrepancy later.
I have been using this - in its basic form it is very useful - thanks for the work- the additional "related verses" and "illustrations" sections makes work a little easier- keep at it [;)]

This statement is contradictory. If the dataset will be in the next version (v7) of Logos it can hardly be free when you pay for a base package or crossgrade.
In answering this type of question you should at least see what is included with the free Logos 6 Core Engine (also look in this wiki).
Excited to see this project one step closer to going live.
And, now that 6.4 beta 1 is available, if you're on the beta and a Logos Now subscriber, you can see stuff like the below images. There are 670,000+ references in total categorized found in over 130 Systematic Theologies available in Logos Bible Software. LIke the 6.3/Now Grammars section, only references actually found in resources you own will be displayed. The below images are from my dev box, which has them all, hence the scope of coverage. In case you're wondering, the denomination/tradition categorization is based on the known denomination/tradition preference/statement of the resource author.
Looks good! Hopefully it does make it to the nonsubscription desktop user eventually.
Thanks for this Rick.
Where is the option to take me to the book store to buy more from a faith or subject perspective? [:D]

You'll have to talk with Phil about that.
Looks great. Thanks for pointing this out.

Can you provide a list of the systematic theologies. Alternatively, indicate somewhere on the product page when a resource is used to compose the Systematic Theology Cross References Dataset.
Searching the Logos Bible Software store for resource type Systematic Theologies I get 273 results. In choosing what to purchase it would be nice to know which will be included in the Systematic Theologies guide section.
EDIT: Search for topic Systematic Theology - 233 results

Yes, we will. This type of information will be in a set of documentation that will be included in the 6.4 release. That documentation is still being written. I'll try to post a list of the 137 titles with author later today.
Thanks, Rick. Looking good from what I've seen so far.
I agree! Great job thus far.
Will this new data set be used to beef up the Topic Guide! Just yesterday I did a search in the Topic Guide for "Union with Christ" and came up dry.
If I understand how the Topic Guide works now it gets its topics from Naves and other topical cross reference books. These are getting a little long at the tooth and I think a more comprehensive and modern source of cross references would be a great addition to Logos.

The information in this dataset is organized by Bible reference, not topic, so Bible ref is the best point of entry to this specific set of data.
The "cross reference" guide sections (Grammars, Systematic Theologies) are really designed to make reference-based guides more effective and helpful by providing hits from pre-established groups of resources with semi-curated classifications. They're intended to help with the "What do my [type of book] say about this reference?" sort of question.

Here's that list I mentioned. Broken down by current (as of posting) denominational breakdown.
1212.SystematicTheologiesResources-2015-05-28.txt
Note: The goal of the denominational categorization is not to produce a comprehensive hierarchical taxonomy of Christian denominations. It is to put a familiar, general, hopefully-useful-for-most label to group Systematic Theology resources for this guide section. These labels didn't come from out of nowhere; there has been a group on Faithlife discussing this (and other aspects of categorizing systematic theologies). Here's the group: https://faithlife.com/systematic-theologies-project/
SWEET - SWEET - SWEET
Would Martyn Lloyd- Jones "Great Doctrines of the Bible" fit into this category? I don't see it on the list....
I don't see it on the list....
I hope many more will be added, incl. texts that focus on only one aspect of systematic theology, such as the Atonement, Baptism, The Word of God (Inspiration), and so on.

I see Frame's "Doctrine of the word of God" on the list, so they may add others....
I'm quite excited about this featur. Anyone in the beta channel care to make a video for the rest of us chickens?
Here's that list I mentioned.
Just want to step back in and thank you for responding so quickly.
I may have missed the answer to this so I'll ask again: Will this eventually make it into the desktop program, say as part of Logos 7 or an otherwise one-time purchase?
I'm very interested in this dataset but not enough to pay $9 for it every month (so far it's the only thing in Logos Now I'm interested in).
Can we buy once and cancel The subscription?
Will this eventually make it into the desktop program, say as part of Logos 7 or an otherwise one-time purchase?
This hasn't been definitively answered but see this post: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/103335/714930.aspx#714930
(I'd recommend reading all of Bob's posts on that thread.)
With Logos Now you are not buying. When you cancel you subscription you will lose access to the dataset.

Yeah, I know Faithlife doesn't like to give definite answers about future releases; any idea about when you might make a decision about making a decision about this and the constellation of related Logos Now Issues?

I literally do not know.
(And I'm unsure what the "constellation of related Logos Now issues" are, so I can't speak to that.)

How much of logos now is rent, how much is rent to own, and how it will relate to future releases of the desktop program (e.g., if I subscribe now how will it affect my purchase of L7?)
I'm fairly open to the idea of Logos Now and hope it becomes as irresistible as Bob claims, but I'm not at all interested in the "journey of discovery" FaithLife is taking to get there. I just want to acquire the resources I need wisely, simply, and at a good price.
As I recall (and correct me if I am wrong), there has not been any publicized plan to make any part of Now anything other than rent.
Your correct.
I do expect to see the features from Now to morph into L7 (or maybe not)- but also think that Now will continue to offer features not in L7. This would insure the continuing availability of cash flow from rentals, and access to new features as they develop. Just off the top of my head- FL could desolve the whole thing next week
IIRC Bob indicated that most Logos Now features would appear in Logos 7 can gave examples of the types of features that might not - examples that appeared to be primarily storage based limitations.
Remember it is advertised primarily as "early access".
