What should Faithlife do with Revised editions?

1. Years ago I purchase Leslie Allen's first edition of his WBC Isaiah commentary.

2. Then a second edition came out.

3. Somewhere along the track I purchased the second edition (or did Logos give it to me free??)

4. Now I cannot access the earlier edition in L6.

5. Compare that with what Faithlife does with the New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology. This is still being sold at full price even though a revised edition is also been sold... The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology and Exegesis.

6. Are there other examples?

7. Another computer software library offers this revised edition as a much reduced upgrade.

my understanding is that revised resources are separate: you should have access to both. (I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong) I would contact customer service about your access problem. customerservice@logos.com.

Stephen, is it possible that you have put your older editions into your hidden resources and have forgotten about it? I have 2 1st editions of Isaiah and 1 on Psalms and they are there in my hidden resources where I placed them.

What happens if you have a resource that references the older volume? If it is hidden does it still follow the links?

I can only speak to the production side of things. Typically we produce revised editions as new resources. (There may be exceptional cases where we simply update the resource if the revision is significantly minor or if requested by the publisher. I'm sure these exist but I can't think of any off the top of my head.)

As for linking: we follow the lead of the citation. If the citation points to the older edition we tag to the older edition. If the citation points to the revised edition we tag to the revised edition. This is necessary due to difference in content and especially difference in pagination.

This is actually a problem, iff the user does not have the older edition.

It would be good to have citation to the new version (with all available warnings and disclaimers [:D]) as an option, so that the user could toggle the option on or off.

What happens if you have a resource that references the older volume?

I recall this happening with Wallace's Greek Beyond the Basics. One of the Lexham guides refers to it, but the older version. One user was thrown off because he was looking it up in the new edition and it did not match. I had to unhide the old edition to unravel the mystery.

Yeah, that is what I was getting at. I bought an old base package that had BAGD so that I can follow links to the older resource. I don't think it would be appropriate for Logos to change the links to the newer versions because there could be major differences.

I do wish that if one bought a newer edition, then he or she could get the older version for a heavy discount if so desired. That would be great! Example: Greek Beyond the Basics (1st) edition is unable to be sold by itself, but if someone buys the newer second edition, then the 1st edition can be added at 80% off.
