Library.Logos.com questions
I'm using the built-in Blackberry browser on a Bold. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with:
1. On my desktop Logos 4, I have the Chinese Bible set as my top preferred Bible. On my Blackberry, all the Chinese text is shown as square black boxes. Does anyone know how to enable Chinese display on a Blackberry? Should I set Encoding to Big5, GB, or one of the Unicode settings (UTF-8 or 16)? None worked so far.
2. If I can't Chinese display to work on my BB, is there a way to choose a different preferred bible on the mobile web site vs. my desktop Logos?
3. On the PG, clicking on Media Resources and Topics just displays the spinner and never returns anything.
I tried downloading the Opera Mini browser (beta), and questions #1 and 2 still apply.
Thanks in advance.
Peter

Peter,
I understand the frustration on this one. I have similar problems with Hebrew even though the Greek works wonderfully. Regarding my problems with Hebrew on the Blackberry (Curve 8900) Bryan responded:
Unfortunately there's not much we can do about this. All we can do is set a font in the CSS, which is really just a suggestion-- the browser does not have to respect it. It is up to the browser to select a font based on the suggestion & render the characters. If the device either chooses to ignore the suggestion, or just doesn't have the font or glyphs, you get the box instead. We have no way to handle this case, or even detect it. I'm afraid this will be a fairly common problem, since a lot of mobile devices ship with pretty minimal fonts. So far the iPhone is the only device I've seen with really good Hebrew support.
I suspect the Chinese font has a similar issue.
I cannot answer questions #2 and #3.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Peter, have you considered using a 3rd party browser like Opera to see if that solves your issues?

My own fault, I have 4 monitors on my desk, and sometimes I run out of personal CPU cycles as I try and sneak a response in while I am watching what is happening in the other three.

Thomas is correct about the fonts. Some people have had luck installing custom fonts on their devices, but I don't know if that's an option for you, or what this entails for your particular device.
There is no way to have a different preferred Bible here. It's all synced with Logos 4. We have had a couple people make this request, so it's possible that we'll add this in a future release.
The blackberry browser has a lot of problems & is very difficult to develop for. I'm not at all surprised that it's having trouble running the javascript in the guides. Many version of the blackberry browser don't support javascript at all. For now I think switching to Opera is a good choice (and not just for our site ). I hope we'll be able to improve compatibility with more devices in the future.
