How do I prioritize the exegetical bible to KJV? It ALWAYS reverts back to ESV after each verse!

even when I click the A link to my KJV bible AND change the exegetical word-by-word guide it KJV it reverts back to the ESV at every verse as I scroll down my bible reading. Is there a way to make it stay on the KJV?

SIDE NOTE: I hate this new logos 4 version - I hate that I have to be on hold to Logos for 1 hour just to ask a simple question and I HATE that they call it a completed version when it clearly is a beta version and doesn't work AT ALL as advertised. And the new home page is worthless - who cares about how many cups of coffee they drink every day - maybe they are drinking coffee instead of answering questions and that's why it take over an HOUR to get a real person.

can you give some detail? Is your interlinear KJV prioritized in your library?

Are you creating a custom exegetical guide? Are you using the stock exegetical guide?

This is certainly not standard behavior with L4.

Can you provide more exacting details?

Have you chosen the KJV as your preferred on the home page?

Just a tip; being rude won't get you help...you may have a strong opinion about how the software does or doesn't perform, and how frustrated you are at the current crisis, but using words like "worthless" and "clearly beta" are your personal opinion and not the experience of many many users on this board.

Logos 4 is not a beta version. It works as advertised. If you don't like the homepage, you can skip it at the startup. Logos is very busy because L4 is still relatively new, so the call center is swamped. If you have a question, ask it here if you don't like being on the phone for an hour. I thought there was only a 20 minute wait or so all the times I have called.

What do you mean by the exegetical bible? Do you know how to prioritize resources? Have you selected the KJV as your primary Bible?

You can turn off the home page appearing at startup by selecting "Customize" the the bottom of the home page, and unchecking "Show home page at startup" in the options list.

Try making the 'King James Version" your preferred Bible. Depending on what books you've bought in the past, you may see two options in your Library: "King James Version" and "The King James Version". The one without 'The' should be the KJV 1900, which has reverse interlinear data, and so can feed the exegetical guide. (You can also use the AV 1873 if you prefer the Cambridge Paragraph Bible 1873 over the 1900 edition - it also has reverse interlinear data.)

In addition to using the home page to set your preferred Bible, you can also do it in the Library view. Click 'Library', click 'prioritize', type 'King James Version' and drag the book over to the top of the 'prioritize' column.

Yes...I just tried prioritizing the KJV version with the "The" in the title (the 1769 version), and the exegetical guide uses the next bible in the priority list (i.e. ESV if no other bibles have been added to the list).

Vincent, I added version dates to my KJV titles. Wouldn't it be helpful if the default titles had dates? or would that be more confusing?

Did you see Vincent Setterholm's post above? He's better than support--he's a Logos developer.

The problem is that there are 3 KJV versions (1769, 1873, and 1900) in Logos, and their titles are:

The King James Version
The Cambridge Paragraph Bible of the Authorized English Version
King James Version

But only the second and the third have the interlinear data that works with the exegetical guide. You need to change your default to one of the others.

In the library what Bible is prioritized the highest. Did you both set the KJV as the preferred Bible (home page) and the highest priority Bible (under library function). If you have the same Bible listed as preferred and first priority, then Logos likely has a typo in the resources which we can report and get repaired. Double check and get back to me.

I am not aware of anything that Logos claims that it does that it does not in fact do. That is why it is not a beta. Frustrated new users think it is a beta because they have not watched all the videos or are not as familiar with the software as experienced users. We are trying to fix a few odds and ends, but that does not mean L4 is a beta.

The Exegetical Guide resets the source resource in the Word By Word section to your highest-prioritised Bible (when scrolling to a new verse in a linked resource). This may not always be appropriate, so I've filed a bug on this functionality.

However, I can't reproduce the problem you describe following your steps. Once I promoted the KJV as my top Bible, it was always used in the Word By Word section. As Vince pointed out, we do have multiple "King James Versions". The issue might be that the wrong one is prioritised at the top.

Now that you've discovered the Forums are a good place to get quicker answers, I hope you'll post some of the 8 questions you've been trying to get answered by tech support. Not only are there some very sharp users here, but developers like Bradley Granger stop by as well, and they know the ins and outs of the program (and why it behaves in certain ways) better than tech support sometimes. Also if you really do stumble upon a bug, it's great to have it documented here so others will know about it and learn from workarounds that might be proposed.

Yes it's frustrating while we're in this phase of waiting for L4 to come up to full feature parity with L3. I think as you get more familiar with it you'll grow to understand some of the design decisions and appreciate the new functionality. Many of us were very frustrated with it at first, too, because we had to go through a paradigm shift in how we interacted with it. Now that we've learned the L4 way of doing things, most of us would never want to go back. We're here to help, so don't hesitate to ask!

Hi MarCia, I have read along with interest. i am sorry your frustration has been so emotionally overwhelming for you. I have noticed a couple posts trying to address your specific problem, but somehow it keeps coming back to a debate over "beta" or "not beta". Assuming your highest priority is to get L4 working for you, I am curious to know the outcome. From the sounds of it, the issue is you have not prioritized the right KJV that includes an interlinear. Have you checked the title of the resource you set? Did you prioritize the correct KJV? Please follow-up with a report if you can. Thanks.

Have you EVER purchased a new program to replace an older version - paid over $100 just for the satisfaction of it being "different" NOT better, not faster, and with MANY, MANY less features! I haven't until now! Nor have I EVER bought a program other than LOGOS that doesn't provide ANY tech support unless purchased at an exorbitant price after market!

Why don’t you post the LONG list of features that you plan to add in the next two years? It’s a huge list and nearly all the features were on the older versions.

I am sick of arguing about this – LOGOS is not being honest when they call this a complete version. I wouldn’t waste my money if you are planning to make a purchase!

That is simply not true. Call or email tech support. Yes, they are swamped right now because of a recent new release so the wait times are longer than normal. Well, good, because we are sick of you screaming about it. I am truly sorry you've had a horrible experience. I am enjoying Logos 4 a lot and wish you could get over the hump of not liking it so you could see how cool it is and how polished most of it is. Try watching Mark Barnes's video series on how he uses it to prepare his sermons, over a cup of "Tension Tamer" tea, and maybe you'll be in a better frame of mind about it to have some real dialogue about specific questions you have. I understand that venting frustration is sometimes necessary at first. But as C.S. Lewis said (in The Silver Chair), "Crying is all right in its own way while it lasts. But you have to stop sooner or later, and then you still have to decide what to do." So when are you going to stop crying about this purchase you made and do something about it? Either return it or learn how to use it better.

Many users are frustrated when they first begin using Logos4, especially users who were very proficient in Logos3. It's alright to be frustrated, we understand. It took me a few weeks to get over the shock of the new program myself. It doesn't help that some of us here are also quite passionate about liking the program. 'Nuff said about that. I'm sure that you want to make it work the way you want it to.

As far as the question I quote above, the answer can be found by clicking on "what's Missing" in my signature below. This is Logos' published time-table for these features. Do note that some things work differently in Logos4 than in Logos3, so it could be that a feature you're looking for is already here. Please feel free to ask specific questions about what you want and how to do it. There are a lot of folks here ready to give specific answers.

As for the issue you came here with, please note that the Exegetical Guide will look for the top prioritized Reverse Interlinear Bible. One of the KJV's is not a reverse interlinear, It's possible you picked that one as your preferred Bible, so the Exegetical Guide looks for the first reverse interlinear in it's list. If you have not prioritized a reverse interlinear, Logos will default to the ESV.

So what you want to do is pick a King James Bible that has a reverse interlinear as your preffered Bible. There are two KJV's that qualify. See the image below for the two from which to pick (this is a screen shot taken from my Library Browser, the Complete Word Study Bible is based on the KJV, as well, but isn't a reverse interlinear either). Pick one of the two KJV's that I circled in red:

I advise you to do two things: 1) Make one of the above your Preferred Bible and 2) put the same one at the top of your Prioritized resources in your Library. It may be overkill to do both, but IMHO it's better to be clear to the program about what you want. If you're not sure how to do either of these things, let us know, or check out the WIKI by clicking on the link in my signature below (BTW, the Videos can be helpful too).

Robert, Stephen, Jeremy, et al., What Robert and Jeremy say here is technically true, but MarCia was expressing her frustration here, as many have. Meeting frustration with the mere logic of a discussion about terms can feel dismissive, and raise the level of frustration, particularly from someone who came here feeling unheard, ignored and who's level of frustration with all things Logos seems to be pretty high. This is what seems to have happened. So what Stephen says is true too.

The assertion that L4 is a beta program as it is (in 4.0a SR2 stage), is not unique to her, and represents a point of view not entirely without merit. Portions of L4 are still being developed, after all. So even if L4 4.0a SR1 isn't technically a beta program (and that point could be debated) it can still feel like one -- especially to those having performance problems, or for whom certain essential features are missing.

MarCia, I hope you have the grace to forgive us all for not attending to your frustration, but rather adding to it. We really do want to help each other here.

Dear Marcia, you are VERY welcome.

I and many others here really do want to be helpful.

If it is any comfort to you, one of my first responses in "Beta" testing back near the beginning of September was: "I feel like I am wearing oven mitts!"

Fortunately "the gloves are now off" [:)]

But, it took about three weeks. [:'(]

Now, after almost 3 months I do feel "at home" and with the help of the "official" Manuals and the "un-official" Video, I feel fairly confident in my abilities. But there are still things that I have great problems implementing--and no, it is certainly not all my fault.

Marcia, please do not tell anyone, but when I want to do something, really, really fast, I actually sometimes load up Libronix 3. [:$]

Yes it does work, but you have to click on the one on top. If you edit the display of the second instance of your video to eliminate all the text after "swf" it will work there too. This forum software is less than intuitive here.

No need to call names, no need to type in all caps like a 10 year old....we are all adults and if getting frustrated with a piece of software does that a person...then that person might want to step back...calm down, apologize for the rudeness...and try and be clear about what help they need.

It's not rocket-science...it's common courtesy.
