BUG: Artifacts on the screen
I've been seeing these occassionaly and managed to capture one with a screen shot. Sometimes an entire panel goes black, other times, something like this might happen. Mousing over the black area can bring back what's underneath, but sometimes a minimize/restore is required to do this completely.
Using Win7 64bit on a 2 monitor system. User Chrome is set 'off'. Video card is an ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 512MB Video RAM.
This was absent for a while, after the set user chrome command came on the scene. But I've been seeing it infrequently since 4.0a.
Note that it is not common for me to see this.

I've seen a few reports of this; to the best of my knowledge (but I could be wrong), it's always been with an ATI video card (and not Nvidia). I suspect that it's a video driver bug; I don't think there's much we can do to work around it, sorry.

I have exactly the same symptoms....It's only appeared in the last beta cycle...I never had it before that...
I'm running an ATI card; Raedon Mobility.

I have an Nvidia card, and I have dual monitor set up (the laptop screen and an external LCD monitor). Only after the 4.0b have I seen this phenomenon. The screen does not turn black, but rather the section either turns white or looks like it's doing nothing (e.g. when opening or closing a panel). When I move the mouse over sections of the screen, it starts to "paintbrush" over parts of the screen that should have repainted in the first place. Almost like a magical marker or invisible ink kind of effect. Happened on either of the two monitors. Cool effect but nonproductive.
When I set custom chrome to no, it seems to fix the problem (but the Home, Library, and Search icons on the upper left corner shrink to half their height, and the "Logos Bible Software 4" window title is now left-justified instead of centered). [Exactly what does that command mean and do? Is it a general UI fix command?]
This all took place today. If the problem recurs I'll report back here.

Normally, Windows programs don't draw into the standard windows title bar, border, etc. To override the default Windows behaviour, we need to implement special code that draws over the title bar, handles the minimise/maximise/close buttons etc. When you execute "set custom chrome to no", we disable all that code and revert to drawing only inside our window; that's why the Home, Library, Search buttons become smaller. This also has the side effect of fixing some hard-to-reproduce bugs related to window positioning and painting.
