1) I've encountered a few different resources that make the following statement:
"We first read that the “heavenly beings” (“sons of God” in Hebrew) come before the Lord God, and Satan is among them. (Here Satan is not the demon of later Judaism, but rather one of God’s heavenly councilors.)"
Robert A. Kugler and Patrick J. Hartin, An Introduction to the Bible (Grand Rapids, MI; Cambridge, U.K.: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 2009), 190.
This little nugget of supposed wisdom is plopped in the text without any supporting evidence whatsoever. It is rather common from more recent scholars to hear this perspective, but it usually (as here) is put forward as a pronouncement from on high...almost as if the writer is passing himself off as part of the "heavenly council" with inside knowledge.
Does anyone know of any Logos resources that do more than just "speak from on high" on this topic? Looking for a rationale for this assertion that is at least a couple of ticks above pure opinion.
2) Also, I'm looking for info on the two perspectives of when the book was written. Some say it is the oldest book in the Bible, and as usual there are those who say it wasn't written until the time of the supposed Deuteronomic redaction. If anyone knows of resources that support either view, I'd like to know. An evidentiary passage would help if you're up to it. Thanks.
