More seriously, I think that the former collection was 1) shorter and 2) originally not as extensively tagged as new collections are now designed to be. This may account for greater production costs and higher pricing. It's not too bad per volume (about $10 apiece, a competitive price compared to the average price of the print volumes) and I'd pay that for one volume I really want. The problem is that we are used to the series being considerably cheaper because of the NT collection.
There is however a psychological block to overcome, the fact that it is still a basic series, and that at this price for the entire collection, it does not compare well with what could be bought for the same price. For instance, one can get WBC for $599 on sale fairly regularly and I can get the 5 large volumes of the classical hebrew dictionary for $250. It makes it harder to want to dish out $330 on BST-OT.
Overall, though I appreciate the series and for all its fair value, it remains true then that it is very unlikely I would purchase it at this price.

We were spoilt with the pricing of the NT series, but this does seem a touch overpriced even considering that. They are only 225 page paperbacks, after all. That said, they're too valuable to me not to order. Perhaps that's what they're banking on.

same here. I think I'll wait till the series is broken up - or makes it into a base package (both not realistically to be expected this calendar year)

I'm not sure about these. I've got the NT ones and some of the thematic ones. There are some really poor volumes in there. A few very good ones too but... that is a lot of money - $10 a book. My guess is it won't ever be in a base package though.

Good point. I have been one of the ones hollering for these for about four years, but since I've waited that long, I'll continue to wait until they break it up. I went through the "accumulation" stage of Logos ownership some years ago and have lived to regret it. I'll buy the volumes I actually want and skip the others.
Having said that, there are about four volumes in this set that are outstanding and I really want, so I hope it doesn't take five years to break the thing up.

I am actually not familiar with this set. Not to hijack the thread, but can some of you who own it describe what you like about it? How does it differ from the NIV Application set?

I was truly wanting this set, but it is more than I can spend for the volumes I really want. Perhaps it will eventually be broken up. I am glad to see FL was able to get permission to publish this set, though.

It's an intermediate commentary, with authors like John Stott, Alec Motyer, Edmund Clowney, D. Kidner and others; well-written with many of the volumes found on the various highly-recommended-commentary lists that abound. Mostly reformed authors. Almost all of them speak the King's English, and are classically educated.
I agree there are some very good commentaries in the NIVAC set. It would be hard to say which set is better; both sets are very good.

Thanks for the info, Doc B. Added to NT set to my wish list. $99 seems lile a really good value, but money is tight right now, so I will keep it in mind if it goes on sale around the holidays.

The volumes date from 1984-2001 but they are more like expository preaching texts than technical commentaries and are helpful for sermon preparation than exegesis papers.
The price does worry me as I want the set but fear that in a year or two its offered at a huge reduction (IVP have been good on discounts at time) before I've got the value out of them. I fear that we are paying the price to get them tagged but others will reap the benefit of them at a lower price. I would like to have seen an "Introductory Discount" of a month that would have brought a lot more people on board.

I like the way you are thinking on this, Stephen: it makes a lot of sense. It rewards early investors (like those who invested in the EEC series). The prospect you raise, which is very plausible (it is difficult to imagine that the series will stay at $330 over the next 5 years), is a deterrent to early investment. Of course, FL may also see it as opportunity that the novelty of the availability of the product may motivate some to swallow the pill even though it is bitter-sweet. One would hope that a happy medium can be found.

Personally, I'd be very surprised if the price dropped below prepub. That happens incredibly rarely. I think what's happened here is simply that Logos/IVP have changed their policies since the NT was released. If you remember, that was done at a time when IVP were selling the CD through their own channels, and different pricing policies applied.
You might get fortunate in the future if these commentaries are bundled with the NT ones and you get a decent discount through dynamic pricing, but that's probably the best you can hope for.

Mark is correct in his assessment - I'm evaluating the NSBT set as well- I own about 90% of the series- but is it really worth $330 to just have it in Logos- right now thinking not.

The price for NSBT is $319 for 35 volumes and about 8,300 pages. BSTOT comes in at $329 for 33 volumes and 7,656 pages. Both are from IVP. Maybe that in some way accounts for the pricing strategy.

It is interesting to observe that this series is from IVP UK where the NT series is from IVP. I saw another set from IVP UK just last week, New Studies in Biblical Theology (35 vols.)

I have noticed that there is a lot of material from IVP that is not in Logos of late. Maybe FL has had to go over the pond to get material from IVP UK because of some issues with IVP here in the States.
I would like to have the set and I agree that it is a significant amount of money to lay out.

Yeah...it makes you wonder. I can say with something approaching certainty that I will never own this set.
Also, I can't actually recall ever coming across any quotes from this set in my Logos library. I'll keep my eyes open now out of curiosity, but I don't expect to encounter that many mentions.

This set isn't core like New International Commentary of the Old Testament or WBC. I think the price tag is more inflation than anything else.

The affect on these commentaries will be minimal. The rights issues apply to short poem/lyrical stanzas quoted by the authors. Usually the quotes appear in illustrative contexts and (for the most part) do not materially affect the actual commentary on Scriptural passages.

I see that the Bible Speaks Today Old Testament Commentary Series is broken up and is on sale for $9.99 as part of the Christmas sale in the "Deals under $10" section. You need to expand it to see these.
It looks like Isaiah is missing but the rest show up.

I also have the Bible Speaks Today NT which I bought at a very low price here on LOGOS.
I would not and will not spend $329.99 for the Bible Speaks Today Old Testament.
Something has changed at LOGOS, because all I see all over the place is exorbitant prices everywhere - both bundles and books way over-priced; and even in pre-pub this is happening.

I got the whole set OT & NT on sale for $119.95 from the competition. It's well done and it serves the purpose of consulting it and copying and pasting for citations. No need to pay over $400 just for the OT set. Besides I also own the NT in Logos, but got it for $60 bucks and change before the price went up ridiculously.
Having a second Bible software definitely helps! I'm even considering a third (Accordance) for Accordance exclusive content. Most of my investment is in Logos, but I realize I gotta be a better steward of the money God gives me and sometimes Logos doesn't really help me in that department, so I have to look for other options.

Doubt you will ever regret getting Accordance. Olivetree, Accordance and Logos all have their strengths. I use OT the least on my desktop but almost most always first on mobile devices. Accordance has fast start and blazing fast searches as well as its numerous graphic rich resources. Logos has many bellls and whistles and offers the largest library selection (Although OT is aggressively adding n books). I have found ACC a great companion for Logos because I have poor cellular coverage when traveling and Accordance always allows me to look up Greek Hebrew although its mobile apps lack a passage guide as of yet.

Anglican portfolio is the only reason I has BST OT in my library. Although I got AP for its massive number of Western Spiritual Classics BST was just an unintended bonus.

I got the dead tree version at Keswick a couple of years ago for £150! I wonder if the price rise in the NT BST and the price that this came out at was anything to do with SPCK taking over IVP UK, the IVP reference bundle seems to have disappeared as well.

Most likely because that's what happened when Zondervan took over Thomas Nelson they jacked up the prices in a very ridiculous way (e.g. EBC, WBC, and a bunch of essential libraries McArthur, David Jeremiah, Courson, etc.). They kind of gave customers an incentive by putting the NIV application commentary on sale for $7.99 per volume.
