Os Guinness mentions the influence of Peter Berger. None of his books are here at Logos/Vyso bt found many at Amazon. Would anyone know what book of are on the short list to read? Thanks.
If you're wanting to read some Berger (and particularly things that connect with Os Guinness) I would start with "The Sacred Canopy." To compliment it, I would also recommend then reading Berger's shorter work "A Rumour of Angels," which he wrote in response to some criticisms of "The Sacred Canopy." If your interest is not only with sociology of religion explicitly but his work more generally, you could check out his sociological classic "The Social Construction of Reality," which he wrote with Thomas Luckmann.
Daniel... very much appreciated. Thanks.
Bob asked the question in another thread if we want every book available. I would settle for those books, like Peter Berger's, that we currently don't have available. Steve, you have pointed out yet another significant gap in what is currently available. It should be available. There should be a "seminal works" squad at Logos that is working diligently to add these types of works. Also, you may want to look into Craig Gay, one of my professors at Regent, who worked under Berger and has written some strong works in the field.
Will do - Craig Gay. Thanks. I work with a chaplain from Regent (Me - Denver Seminary) and enjoy his many accounts from his time there. I still think about his mentioning how he made sure he didn't miss the start of Bruce Waltke's OT classes. He wanted to be there to hear him pray.
