TIP of the Day: Forums - How to copy a link to a thread or to an individual post
To copy a link to an existing thread (for pasting elsewhere), make sure you're viewing that thread in your browser from its very top, not from a post lower down on it (i.e., there should be no # in the URL displayed in your browser, as that indicates a bookmark link to a post further down the thread from the top). If there is a bookmark at the end of the URL (like this:
you can get the browser pointing back to the top of the thread by clicking the last segment of the "breadcrumb" link at the top of the page (it's called "breadcrumb" because it's like dropping breadcrumbs along your way in the forest so you can follow them back to where you came from; if the birds don't eat them!):
Note that simply scrolling up to the top of the thread will not accomplish this, as it doesn't change the URL displayed in the address bar at the top of the browser.
Once you're at the beginning of the thread, the URL in your browser will look something like this (with a /t/ in it, for thread, instead of the /p/ in it, for post):
Now you can select that URL and copy it to paste it elsewhere.
Note that when you paste a URL into a forum post, you need to type Space after it to turn it into a clickable link.
To copy a direct link to a specific post within a thread that isn't the first post, click on the little icon next to the poster's name that looks like a page with its corner dog-eared:
That will take your browser to the URL that points directly to that post (it'll have a /p/ in it and a bookmark at the end):
Now you can select all of that URL and copy it (Ctrl+C on Windows, Cmd+C on Mac) for pasting elsewhere. Again, remember when posting this URL to the forum, type Space afterwards to turn it into a clickable link.

I don't know about Windows, but on Mac the simplest is to right-click on the link, copy, and paste: TIP of the Day: Forums - How to copy a link to a thread or to an individual post. Saves me from reloading the page, looks much nicer, and helps others know what thread I'm talking about without having to actually go there.
An individual post will look like 738806.aspx if you paste it directly, though in that case I generally prefer to type my own text, select it, and use the chain icon to paste the link.
