Good suggestion, though I'm not familiar with the first and last authors you suggest.

As an aside, with changes in the SDA denomination, I'm not sure Dr. Hoekema would characterize them as a cult anymore. They no longer qualify according to his test of what is a cult (as I understand where the SDA's are now). Also, that term 'cult' has shifted in meaning a bit from the time that Hoekema used it.

Thanks for the info Richard. If you don't mind is there a way or a book i can get an update on SDA?

    Good question.

I've gotten most of my info from talking with SDA members, including an SDA pastor friend, and SDA missionaries (when I was on the mission field in the Dominican Republic in the late 80's early 90's).

You could look here and see what they say themselves: http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/

As I look at their statements, I might disagree with them here and there, but then as a Reformed believer, I disagree with Arminians, Mennonites, and Dispensationalists, (as well as others on some points) too - that is I disagree as brothers with a common faith.

One of the things that has changed, and for which Hoekema would need to reclassify them is their exclusivity. Look at this official statement, also from their website:

To avoid creating misunderstanding or friction in our relationships with other
Christian churches and religious organizations, the following guidelines have
    been set forth:

    1) We recognize those agencies that lift up Christ before men as a part of
the divine plan for evangelization of the world, and we hold in high esteem
Christian men and women in other communions who are engaged in winning souls
    to Christ.

    2) When interdivision work brings us in contact with other Christian societies
and religious bodies, the spirit of Christian courtesy, frankness, and fairness
    shall prevail at all times.

The above quote is from this page: http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/other_documents/other_doc5.html and is an internal document intended to give guidelines to SDA members about relating to non SDA members.

Everything written by D. Edmond Hiebert should be in the Logos library.  I already own everything in print by Hiebert, but I would definitely spend the money to have it added to Logos.

Herman Hoeksema is an excellent request, Ted.  Don't forget his The Clark Van Til Controversy.  Regardless of where one stands in that debate, you have to give HH his due for theological acuity and brilliant analysis.

You also mention David Engelsma.  Another brilliant PRC mind.  His analysis of Mt 22 in analyzing the "Common Grace"  "Free Offer" debate is excellent reading and will get the little grey cells working.  http://www.prca.org/prtj/apr1990.pdf

In fact, I would like to see the Protestant Reformed Theological Journal put into Logos format.   PRTJ available here for free download: http://www.prca.org/prtj/index.html.    Pamphlets and miscellaneous available here for free download:  http://www.prca.org/pamphlets/.   (Disclaimer:  I am not a member of, or associated in any way with, the PRC.  I just happen to think that they have a marvelous gift for conservative, biblically-rational thought.)

I've stated before how I would like to see D. Edmond Hiebert's commentaries in Logos.  Will it help if I keep saying "please"?  Logos, please, please, please, please, please make them available.  [:D]  Anyone else want to "encourage" Logos some more about adding these?

    D. Edmond Hiebert has made it into Logos http://www.logos.com/product/17715/d-edmond-hiebert-collection

Thanks Logos. What ever happened to the rest of Hiebert's work below? Perhaps it's b/cos it is published by another publisher & so cannot be included in the offering on Pre-Pub. I sure would love to see the rest.

    • 1 & 2 Thessalonians by D. Edmond Hiebert
    • James by D. Edmond Hiebert
    • First Peter by D. Edmond Hiebert
    •  An Introduction to the New Testament, Vols. 1-3
      by D. Edmond Hiebert

Edit: To include James to the list, after reading Daniel's comment below.

I was hoping his commentary on James would be in the mix as well.

This is good as far as it goes. Just finished using his 1 & 2 Thessalonians commentary for the first time in quite a while and was reminded of the value of his writing. Hope the others will be added.
